Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has recalled his ambassador to Israel for consultations, according to a column in newspaper Folha de S. Paulo published on Monday.
The Brazilian ambassador had previously been summoned by Israel's foreign minister for a reprimand following comments by Lula likening the war against Hamas militants in Gaza to the Nazi genocide during World War II.

The EU navel mission is called called Aspides, after the ancient Greek word for shield, and involves sending warships and airborne early warning systems to the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and surrounding waters
Aspides vessels will have orders only to fire on the militants if they attack first, and will not be authorized to shoot pre-emptively. The operational command is to be in the Greek city of Larissa.

In response to the US-UK aggression, the Yemeni Armed Forces, carried out a military operation targeting a British ship, 'RUBYMAR,' in the Gulf of Aden with anti-ship missiles. The results of the operation include:
>RUBYMAR
Inflicting severe damage to the ship, leading to its complete halt.
Due to extensive damage, the ship is now at risk of sinking in the Gulf of Aden.
Ensuring the safe evacuation of the ship's crew during the operation.
In Hodeidah, the Yemeni air defenses, successfully shot down an America MQ-9 drone with a suitable missile while the drone was conducting hostile operations.
At the EU Foreign Affairs Council, we have just approved the launch of the Aspides naval military operation, of which Italy will have command of the forces. Italy is at the forefront to protect merchant interests and free navigation in the Red Sea. It is a significant step towards common European defense," announces Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on X. Rear Admiral Costantino: "Italy will complement the political role it has played in the launch of the operation with an important operational role: it will provide the Force Commander - Rear Admiral Costantino - and the Force Headquarters, which will be installed on a destroyer," diplomatic sources report. The Aspides Operational Command will be detached at the European Headquarters in Larissa, while the Strategic Command will remain - as for all EU military missions and operations - in Brussels. Italy will have tactical command: The mission will last at least one year, with possible renewal following a decision by the EU Council, it will be defensive and does not precede ground attacks. The strategic command of the operation will be entrusted to Greece and will be open to the participation of third countries. The tactical command will belong to Italy, which will be present with an Italian Navy ship. The purpose of the mission is to ensure the principle of freedom of navigation, excluding any kind of involvement in land operations against Houthi bases in Yemen. Currently, there are two missions in the area that skirts the Gulf of Aden. The first is Operation Atalanta, established in 2008 against pirate attacks on merchant ships off the Somali coast. Italy participates in this mission, and our country took over the command on February 11th. The second operation is Emasoh/Agenor, born on French initiative, active in the Strait of Hormuz, between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran, with an operational command in Abu Dhabi. Aspides could use ships, personnel and equipment from the Agenor mission, thus giving rise to an operation with a much wider perimeter. The defensive nature: The Aspides mission (shields) hinges on a recent mandate from the United Nations and on Articles 42, 43 and 44 of the Treaty of the European Union (TEU). Article 42 provides for the use of "civilian and military means in missions outside the EU to ensure the maintenance of peace, the prevention of conflicts and the strengthening of international security, in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter." Article 44 gives the possibility of entrusting such interventions to a group of member countries, volunteers with adequate capabilities. The mission provides for the shooting down of drones, missiles and any other weapon directed against merchant ships. It does not provide for attacks on Yemeni territory, as is the case for the Prosperity Guardian led by the US. Possible reactions to attacks by enemy military ships will be subject to discussion. Participating countries: The total number has not yet been certified. Beyond Italy, France and Germany it seems almost certain that those who participate in the Agenor mission will be there: they could be Portugal, Denmark, the Netherlands, in addition to Greece which has strategic command. Belgium has said it will participate, Ireland and Spain will not send either ships or men.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the decision to deploy Naval Force Operation Aspides on Monday on X, saying, โEurope will ensure freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, working alongside our international partners. Beyond crisis response, itโs a step towards a stronger European presence at sea to protect our European interests.โ
