The romans didn't come into Judah until hundreds of years after the Edomites had settled in Judah, Jerusalem and had rebuilt Solomons Temple, installing themselves as the LAW over Judah.

The later occupying Romans allowed the Edomite Jews to continue as the local government, ultimately overseen by Rome.

It's those Pharisee and Co. whom Jesus is speaking to in the Book of John, described as Jews. They literally tell him they were never in captivity, unlike the Israelites, and that Jesus is a Samaritan, not a Jew.
