Break-in suspect shot and killed by occupant

ST. LOUIS – One man is dead after a shooting in the Central West End.

This happened just before 4 a.m. at the ‘Tuscan Lodge’ on Westminster Place, just blocks away from Forest Park. The police said that a man was breaking into the building.

 

That’s when an occupant shot the burglar. He died at the scene. The man’s name has not yet been released.

Man breaking into Masonic Lodge in St. Louis fatally shot by occupant, police say

ST. LOUIS — A man breaking into a historic Masonic Lodge here early Wednesday was fatally shot by an occupant of the building, police said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 4 a.m. inside the Tuscan Masonic Lodge at 5015 Westminster Place, police said.

The man killed, 37, was shot by an occupant of the building while trying to break in, police said. He was found with a puncture wound on a bathroom floor of the building and pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The shooter, a man in his 40s, told officers he had been woken up by the building's security alarm before he picked up a gun, searched the building and shot the man, police said.

 

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting. Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call detectives at 314-44-5371. Calls to CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477 may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.

 

The Lodge, at the corner of Westminster and Kingshighway Boulevard in St. Louis' Central West End neighborhood, is a historic two-story building used by the Freemasons’ Tuscan Lodge No. 360, a local chapter of the Freemasons fraternal organization.

Masonic Lodge, historic building and how many in the swanky neighborhood and police department are members. Simple break in? What is in those buildings? Doubtful any more information will be forthcoming.
