It's a question of state and tenses.
Belief is faith.
If you believe you are good and say "I am good." that is heard and implemented in your path based on the understanding of what "good" is.
If you say "I want to lift the curses on me"… that is nice to know. You will then continue to want.
If you say "I now lift the curses on me"… that will work better as you want.
If you say "I curse that man in some way" then that curse has no end in sight unless he is aware of it or someone undoes it.
