Most Ukraine aid ‘goes right back’ to US – Nuland

The money that Washington allocates for Kiev supports jobs in America, the high-ranking State Department official has said

Washington spends most of the money allocated as aid for Ukraine on weapons production at home, Acting US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said in an interview with CNN this week.

Commenting on the pending aid package which Congress failed to approve before going on winter recess, Nuland said she has “strong confidence” that it will pass, as it addresses America’s own interests.

“We have to remember that the bulk of this money is going right back into the US economy, to make weapons, including good-paying jobs in some forty states across the US,” she stated, adding that support for Ukraine in America “is still strong.”

Lawmakers in the House of Representatives blocked a bill requested by US President Joe Biden for an aid package for Kiev worth $60 billion, most of which is earmarked for weapons, earlier this month. They are expected to restart discussions on the package after they reconvene on February 28.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also recently said that roughly 90% of the financial assistance for Ukraine is spent on domestic production of weapons and equipment. At a press conference on December 20, he said additional tranches would “benefit American business, local communities, and strengthen the US defense industrial base.”

According to Germany’s Kiel Institute, which tracks international support for Kiev, Washington allocated nearly €68 billion ($73.7 billion) in aid for Ukraine between January 24, 2022 and January 15, 2024, including roughly €43 billion ($46.6 billion) in military aid.

However, Kiev has been increasingly demanding more aid from its Western backers. Several days ago, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky warned visiting American legislators that Kiev would “lose the war” against Russia without Washington’s assistance, according to US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Russia has criticized the US and other Western states for their military support for Kiev, arguing that it is only dragging out the conflict.

According to a recent survey from the Harris Poll and the Quincy Institute, a growing number of Americans do not support US military aid to Kiev unless it is tied to peace talks. Only 22% of respondents said Washington should continue ‘unconditionally’ providing Ukraine with financial assistance, while 48% said new funding must be conditioned on progress toward a diplomatic solution. Around 30% said the US should halt all aid.

The U.S. federal government is tracking people who decided not to get the COVID-19 vaccine injection, according to bombshell federal government records and video exclusively obtained by NATIONAL FILE. According to the shocking video, unvaccinated people are quietly tracked when they go to the doctor’s office or to the hospital due to a quiet new program proposed and implemented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Government meeting materials make clear that the new program is designed to “track people who are not immunized or only partially immunized.”

A bombshell piece of information was revealed at the September 14-15, 2021 virtual Zoom meeting of the federal government’s ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee (which includes representatives from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, known as CMS, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics). At the meeting, the Committee discussed new categories of “ICD-10” codes that the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) wanted to create to mark people as “Unvaccinated for COVID-19,” “Partially Vaccinated for COVID-19” and “Other underimmunization status.”

The ICD-10 coding system was created by the World Health Organization (WHO) and doctors are required to use it to categorize different kinds of patients. The ICD-10 codes are preserved in a patient’s electronic health record and used by insurance companies for billing purposes. The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics maintains the ICD-10 codes. Within ICD-10 codes, there is a category known as “ICD-10-CM” codes (which are reportedly used by the CDC for tracking purposes), and this “CM” category includes the new “Unvaccinated for COVID-19” category and also the “Partially Vaccinated For COVID-19” category and the “other underimmunization status” category.

The Committee made it clear that the new codes would be used to “track” unvaccinated people. At the time of the meeting, people who had adverse reactions to a past vaccine would still be categorized as unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, even if they are physically unable to get more vaccines or boosters.

Israeli Airstrike Hits Rafah, Claiming Lives and Sparking Outrage

Eyewitnesses described the aftermath as chaotic, with bodies scattered on the streets and buildings severely damaged.

An Israeli airstrike hit the southern city of Rafah today, leaving a trail of destruction and loss of life.

According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli Occupation Forces targeted a residential area, claiming the lives of at least seven people and injuring several others.

The attack occurred in the vicinity of al-Dakhiliyah Street in the al-Geneina neighborhood of southern Rafah.

Al Jazeera correspondents described the aftermath as chaotic, with bodies scattered on the streets and buildings severely damaged. The report said that the targeted area is a busy road leading to a local market.

The attack has reignited outrage among Palestinians in the densely populated border town.

Rafah is currently home to over one million Palestinians, the majority of whom have fled from other parts of Gaza amid Israeli attacks.

In October, the Israeli army initiated its ground invasion of Gaza, starting from the north and progressively moving southward.

Throughout this campaign, Israeli forces ordered civilians to evacuate to designated “safe zones” in the south for their protection.

However, as the invasion has now reached Rafah, the southernmost city in Gaza, there are no viable options for further evacuation.

The occupation forces have urged United Nations relief agencies to evacuate civilians from the war zone while accusing the agencies of complicity with Hamas.

Israel’s attacks on Rafah follow a declaration by Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to extend the military campaign into the city.

‘Hunger is killing us’: Gazans increasingly desperate amid growing humanitarian crisis

Food is running out in northern Strip’s Jabaliya, with aid agencies unable to reach the area due to fighting, looting; man says he slaughtered his horses and fed them to his family

At the Jabaliya camp in northern Gaza, Abu Gibril was so desperate for food to feed his family that he slaughtered two of his horses.

“We had no other choice but to slaughter the horses to feed the children. Hunger is killing us,” he said.

Jabaliya was the biggest camp in Gaza before the war, which was sparked when Hamas-led terrorists carried out an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people — mostly civilians — and taking 253 hostages to the Strip.

Gibril, 60, fled to Jabaliya from nearby Beit Hanun when the fighting started.

Home for him and his family is now a tent near what was a UN-run school in the area that was for years known as a Hamas stronghold.

Israel has killed over 3,800 Gazans in 4 weeks since ICJ genocide ruling – Day 140

Middle East Monitor reports: Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, an independent organization based in Geneva, reported Friday that it documented: “The killing of more than 3,847 Palestinians by the Israeli army, including 1,306 children and 807 women, in addition to the injury of about 5,119 since the ICJ issued its ruling.”

The organization confirmed that it had observed six main indicators that Israel is continuing the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip within four weeks of the ruling issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which required it to take measures to prevent this.

These indicators include continued mass killings of civilians, intentionally inflicting severe physical and psychological harm, deliberately subjecting residents to miserable living conditions with the aim of actual destruction, starvation, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid, imposing measures aimed at preventing childbirth within Palestinian families, and official and public incitement by Israeli officials to escalate its genocide.

New OHCHR annual report: the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) noted a broad range of concerns, including unlawful killings, hostage-taking, destruction of civilian property, collective punishment, forced displacement, incitement to hatred and violence, sexual assault, and torture – these acts are all prohibited by international human rights and humanitarian laws.

“The entrenched impunity reported by our Office for decades cannot be permitted to continue. There must be accountability on all sides for violations seen over 56 years of occupation and the 16 years of blockade of Gaza, and up to today,” said Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

“Justice is a pre-requisite for ending cycles of violence and for Palestinians and Israelis to be able to take meaningful steps towards peace.”

The New Arab reports: The head of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) spoke to the United Nations Security Council on Thursday. Among his statements was this: “[For children] there is a repeated displacement, constant fear and witnessing family members literally dismembered before their eyes. These psychological injuries have led children as young as five to tell us that they would prefer to die.”

UNICEF, the UN agency for the protection of children, estimated that at least 17,000 children in the Gaza Strip are unaccompanied or have been separated from their immediate family since the start of the conflict.

Children make up about half of the overall displaced population of 1.7 million people in Gaza.

Ukraine ready for war with China – top MP

Kiev is a “valuable ally” of Washington, Aleksey Goncharenko said while demanding more funding

Kiev is ready to assist the US in a war against any enemy, be it Iran, North Korea, or China, a senior Ukrainian MP has said, claiming that his country would prove to be a valuable military ally.

In an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Friday, Aleksey Goncharenko doubled down on calls for the US to send Ukraine more military aid amid gridlock in Congress. “[The] United States of America told [us that] we will be with you ‘as long as it takes.’ Now it’s time to keep the promises.”

Goncharenko rebuked US politicians for focusing too much on the looming 2024 presidential election, saying Ukraine should not be a “victim” of this. He also claimed that supporting Ukraine serves Washington’s interests regardless of who wins the race for the White House.

UK Government is STILL Lying to Protect Israel’s Genocidal Maniacs

Spreading propaganda through government ministers and MPs to claim that Israel has superior rights to the Palestinians’ and is therefore entitled to more advantageous treatment is tantamount to misleading Parliament and the public, and is a serious offence.

Andrew Mitchell, UK Minister of State for Development and Africa, issued a statement yesterday on Israel/Gaza which shouldn’t be allowed to escape criticism. Here are extracts.

“The Government supports Israel’s right to self-defence, in compliance with International Humanitarian Law, against the horrific terror attacks perpetrated by Hamas on 7 October 2023.”

The suggestion that Israel is “in compliance with International Humanitarian Law” is untrue. The UN warns that “Israel cannot claim self-defence against a threat that emanates from the territory it occupies – from a territory that is kept under belligerent occupation”. Check UN Resolutions 37/43 and 3246.

And as China reminded everyone at the ICJ, “armed resistance against occupation is enshrined in international law and is not terrorism”. As a minister, Mr Mitchell should take advice from credible legal sources, not pro-Israel propagandists.

“We condemn the slaughter, abuse and gender-based violence perpetrated on 7th October 2023, Hamas’ use of civilian areas, their continued failure to release hostages and their ongoing launching of attacks into Israel.”

Violence, war crimes and illegal occupation using military force have been perpetrated by Israel against Palestinian civilians for 75 years. In the 23 years up to October 7 Israel was slaughtering Palestinians at the rate of 8:1 and children at the rate of 16:1. Former Prime Minister Urges Israelis To 'Besiege The Knesset' To Oust Netanyahu

This weekend has seen large tumultuous anti-Netanyahu protests in Tel Aviv led by the families of hostages and victims of Oct. 7. The families have long demanded that the government get more serious about another hostage/prisoner exchange. They've accused the prime minister of intentionally thwarting a deal for the sake of prolonging the war and in turn prolonging his hold on power.

The scene grew violent Saturday as riot police on horseback charge demonstrators in a central Tel Aviv square. Police also used water canons against the protesters. Watch some of the mayhem unfold in the below:

Netanyahu tried to calm the rising anger directed against him by a statement on X saying, "We are working to obtain another outline for the release of our hostages." He added, "That is why I sent a delegation to Paris - and tonight we will discuss the next steps in the negotiations."

Israeli media once again reports 'cautious optimism' regarding ceasefire talks, but Netanyahu has at the same time been insistent on rejecting Hamas' "delusional" conditions for a deal - most especially the demand for all Israeli forces to withdraw from the Strip.

At least 21 people were arrested in Saturday's demonstration, with some injuries among the protesters also reported. It's a sign that such demonstrations are about to get more violent.

Relatives of the kidnap victims believe a deal is realistic and obtainable, and have held out hope of their loved ones being returned to Israel. There's still over one hundred Israelis held in Gaza - though many could be deceased at this point.

On Sunday, the country's former prime minister Ehud Barak added fuel to the anti-Netanyahu fire, however, by urging an escalation in protests until Netanyahu is forced to step down. According to Al Jazeera:

Ehud Barak says Israelis need to protest outside their parliament "day and night" to help bring an end to Netanyahu’s rule.

Barak, who served as Israel’s prime minister from 1999 to 2001, added that demonstrations should go on "until Netanyahu understands that his time is up and the public no longer trusts him".

“When the state is shut down, Netanyahu will realize his time is up," he told Army Radio, as reported by the Jerusalem Post newspaper.

Deepfake explicit imagery is creating risks for children and challenges for law enforcers

Cybercrime experts say children and teenagers are increasingly being targeted by predators generating deepfake images.

Australia's eSafety Commissioner says 90 per cent of deepfakes are estimated to be explicit.

What's next? Experts say that, in addition to legal responses, education is crucial for protecting potential victims.

Noelle Martin was a teenager when she discovered she had been targeted by online predators.

"I saw dozens upon dozens of images of me that have been taken and doctored into fake pornography and plastered all over the internet," she said.

"In an instant, my life completely changed."

In 2012, those predators were using technology far inferior to today's instant and sophisticated artificial intelligence.

Ms Martin, now 29, said she feared the risks were now much greater for young people — and only getting worse as technology advanced.

"Everything about you and your life can be clouded by what's out there on the internet," she said.

"It affects your employability, your interpersonal relationships, your emotional and physical health.

"I worry about future generations."

Now a lawyer and online safety advocate, Ms Martin is among those calling for more education about the illegality and personal harm caused by AI-generated explicit images.

Last month, reports that non-consensual and sexually explicit artificial intelligence images of global pop icon Taylor Swift were widely circulating on social media platform X prompted calls for stronger legislative safeguards.

But Australian cybercrime experts have stressed that it isn't only high-profile people who are in danger of having their pictures misused.
