CHARLESTON, WV: "West Virginia children may soon be able to obtain religious exemptions for the vaccines that are currently required to attend school in the state. Under current laws, West Virginia requires families to get their children vaccinated against chickenpox, diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella and hepatitis B to attend any school, whether public, private or religious. House Bill 5105 would modify the law to get rid of the requirement altogether for private and religious schools, as well as virtual public schools unless the student participates in West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission-sponsored athletics.
The bill passed in the West Virginia House of Delegates on Monday 57-41. It has been communicated to the West Virginia State Senate."
