BUDAPEST, March 4 (Reuters) - Hungary's nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban will meet former U.S. President Donald Trump this coming Friday in Florida, shortly after he openly endorsed his long-time ally's bid to return to the U.S. presidency this year.
The right-wing Orban, who has regularly been at loggerheads with the EU over his anti-immigration campaigns and moves to put the judiciary, NGOs, and media under more state control, has been described by Trump as a "great leader".
Orban's conservative family policies have also earned praise among populist figures in the United States, and Hungary has hosted meetings of CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, in the past years.
Next month Hungary will host CPAC for the third time.
The Hungarian premier, who has refused to send weapons to Ukraine and kept up close economic ties with Russia since the Russian invasion in 2022, has repeatedly said that only the return of Trump to the White House could bring peace in Ukraine.
"It is not gambling but actually betting on the only sensible chance, that we in Hungary bet on the return of President Trump," Orban told an economic forum on Monday.
"The only chance of the world for a relatively fast peace deal is political change in the United States, and this is linked to who is the president."
Trump, who is seeking reelection, caused outrage among Western allies last month after suggesting the United States might not protect NATO allies who are not spending enough on defence from a potential Russian invasion.

Hungaryâs Orban says Trumpâs comeback as president âonly serious chanceâ for end of Ukraine war
Updated 12:40 PM EST, March 1, 2024
ANTALYA, Turkey (AP) â Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor OrbĂĄn confirmed Friday that he will visit Donald Trump in Florida next week, and described a possible comeback by the former U.S. president as the âonly serious chanceâ for an end to the war in Ukraine.
Addressing a diplomacy forum in Turkey, OrbĂĄn also suggested that Trumpâs possible return to the White House could help end the conflict in Gaza.
Orbanâs meeting with Trump comes as the former U.S. president seeks to turn his attention to his looming election rematch with U.S. President Joe Biden. Trumpâs political standing within his own party seems stronger than ever, having easily won the early presidential Republican primary contests.
âThe only serious chance for peace is if heâs able to come back and to make peace,â OrbĂĄn told the forum. âOtherwise, the war between Ukraine and Russia will be long.â
Trumpâs return âis a precondition for a strong and quick peace in the European continent,â he continued.
OrbĂĄn said he was convinced that if Trump had been in office when the war in Ukraine started âthere would have been no war now.â
Commenting on the war in Gaza, the Hungarian prime minister said Trump had an âunderstandingâ of the conflict.
âHe did something which generated some hope,â OrbĂĄn said in reference to the Abraham accords that aimed to normalize ties between Israel and Gulf states.
OrbĂĄn and Trump have been long allies and Trump regularly praises the right-wing populist in his campaign speeches.
In April 2023, when charges were filed in the first of Trumpâs four criminal cases, OrbĂĄn posted a message of support for Trump urging him to âkeep on fighting.â
Trump in early 2022 said he was giving his âcomplete support and endorsementâ to OrbĂĄnâs reelection campaign that year.
âI respect him (Trump) very much,â OrbĂĄn told the forum in Turkey. âI like mavericks and he is like that.â
The two met in August 2022 at Trumpâs Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club when OrbĂĄn traveled to the United States to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC, in Texas.

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Walls For Me But Not For Thee, Congress Builds A Wall For Itself While Leaving Americaâs Borders Open
by Charles Downs | Mar 7, 2024 | Exclusive, General News | 0 Comments
An exclusive video by Loomer Unleashed shows that the United States Congress constructed a massive wall ahead of Thursdayâs State of the Union. Joe Biden and Congress refuse to take meaningful action to close Americaâs borders. Loomerâs reporting from the DariĂŠn Gap highlighted thousands of people a day are making their way across Central America to enter the United States illegally. Democrat leaders Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Nancy Pelosi, and Chuck Schumer have referred to President Trumpâs border wall as âracistâ and âineffective.â The political elite believe they are entitled to walls while the American people are not.
The United States Congress constructed a massive black wall stretching miles around the U.S. Capitol Complex in under eight hours. Ironically, if Congressâ wall were a few feet higher, covered in barbwire, and cemented into the ground, it would serve as a great border wall on Americaâs borders.
Elected Democrats have the twisted logic that walls protect them but not the American people. Chuck Schumer, who will be protected at the STOU by Congressâ wall, once wrote, âDemocrats will once again force a vote to terminate President @realDonaldTrumpâs national emergency declaration. Using the national emergency declaration to pay for his ineffective, expensive border wall wasâand isâan outrageous power grab.â
Kamala Harris, who will also be protected at the STOU by Congressâ wall, agrees with Schumer that walls do not protect the American people, âLetâs be honest about it: Trumpâs wall wonât stop transnational criminal organizations.â
Joe Biden is against building walls unless itâs a wall constructed to protect him at the STOU or his Delaware beach home. Biden once wrote, âWe must seek not to build walls, but bridges. We must seek not to clench our fists, but to open our arms. We must seek not to tear each other apart, but to come together.â
Then there is Nancy Pelosi, who has no issue with Congress building a wall for her protection while freaking out when President Trump built a wall for the American peopleâs safety, posting, âAmericans reject @realDonaldTrumpâs immoral & hateful obsession with building a wall on the border. He should move on. #NoWallâ
Unlike elected Democrats, President Trump is supportive of border walls to protect the American people. Trump understands the vital point that âWithout a Wall, there cannot be safety and security at the Border or for the U.S.A. BUILD THE WALL AND CRIME WILL FALL!â
Loomerâs reporting from the DariĂŠn Gap shows thousands of people a day crossing Central America with plans to enter the United States illegally. Biden and the Democrats probably do not want to build a wall on Americaâs Border because the incoming illegal immigrants love Biden. Loomer reported that âmigrantsâ from Venezuela told me they âLove Joe Bidenâ. They even made heart shapes with their hands and said âBiden I love youâ. They said they like Biden because heâs going to give migrants lots of help and heâs for open borders (Fronteras abiertos).â
Sadly, there is a major political party in the United States of America that only cares about their politiciansâ safety. This is one of the significant reasons polls show President Trump holding a commanding lead over Joe Biden in Novemberâs election.

==Hungaryâs Viktor OrbĂĄn set to pay visit to Donald Trump at Florida home=
ASSOCIATED PRESS
NEW YORK (AP) â Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor OrbĂĄn was set this week to visit Donald Trump, the former president and prohibitive favorite to become the Republican Partyâs presidential nominee, at his membership club and personal residence Mar-a-Lago, according to a person briefed on the plans.
The Florida meeting, reportedly on tap Friday, comes as Trump seeks to turn his attention to his looming election rematch with President Joe Biden.
Trumpâs political standing within his own party seems stronger than ever, having steamrolled through the Republican primary contests without so much as a single debate appearance and having publicly flexed his influence over Republican members of Congress and the leadership of the party apparatus.
