what are you?
thanks much
You seem to focus on emotional attachment (being strongly for or against someone) as being the only two possibilities when what makes sense is being indifferent to things that don't really matter.

CIA Spy: "Leave The USA Before 2030!" Why You Shouldn't Trust Your Gut! - Andrew Bustamante

COMMENT:
This guy was a CIA operative. Has interesting things to say about how his CIA training enabled him both to see thru liars, also how to motivate/manipulate people using RICE (~50 minutes in):
Reward
Ideology
Coercion
Ego
Best to worst: Ideology, Ego, Reward, Coercion
So "carrot and stick" are at the bottom.
What's interesting is his belief that appealing to Ideology and Ego is the best way to convince people to do something or to buy what you're selling. It's not that this is never true but that it's a limited hangout. You can see just how limited when he then discusses PERCEPTION vs PERSPECTIVE.
Says we tend to trust our GUT, which he equates to PERCEPTION. Says we should not trust our gut because this is an emotional response. We should instead use rationality to gain PERSPECTIVE. This is akin to the idea in instrumental flying that we need to rely on instruments when in a cloud because our perceptions will lead us astray. This makes sense when discussing sensory inputs. HOWEVER: it does not make sense when discussing deeper motivations, the kind that go beyond either ego or ideology.
Real gut instinct aka intuition transcends both emotion and rationality. It's not a limited hangout but is rooted in something more fundamental.
The problem with CIA training - - and with other training given to DS types - - is that it's COMPLETELY BLIND to higher motivations, the kind that transcend emotion and rationality. This BLIND SPOT is its Achilles Heel. To the extent that one relies upon real gut instinct grounded in Reality, he will see thru the lies and be immune to the manipulations.
of course he's a spook, he's talking about how to apply what he learned in the CIA in a business setting. What he says is interesting because of what he unknowingly reveals about the limitations of that way of thinking - and how understanding those limitations make it possible to defeat their manipulations.
(one of the things he says is how it's good to listen a lot and talk little, but in this interview, he talks a lotโฆโฆ.KEK)
what a good windmill to tilt at
Tanks.
wikipedia:
The original production was the subject of the documentary film Lost in La Mancha, which was intended to be a "making-of" but was released on its own in 2002.
i remember that film, very funny in a pathetic sort of way.
didn't know gilliam finally released the actual film 16 years later, KEK.
every experience i ever had in spain was crazy, good to have made it out of the country alive.
