who cares. go eat shit and bark at the moon so you can rage more about stupid shit.
bible thumpers are part of the 4-6%.
The first thing to keep in mind when people say that the Bible has been subscribed to by millions of people for centuries, is that that they do so under the threat of horrendous torture. Torture that never ends. There is no respite from the searing waves of pain of Hell. Hell. Burning. Excruciating Pain. Hell.
You know what I say to evangelists who tell me this? I say “get screwed, you perverts”
Without the psychological threat of unending torture in Hell, most people would listen to the claim that a God created the Earth, and correctly dismiss it as being a a figment of imagination by a group of sadistic, perverted mad-men.
Proof the Bible is a Fake
There are lots of contradictory views about who wrote the New Testament and when. Did the writers know Jesus personally? etc.
It doesn’t matter.
What does matter is that God didn’t write the Bible. Some rabbi’s in Israel wrote the Old Testament, some leaders of a new breakaway sect calling themselves Christians travelled to Greece and wrote the New Testament.
According to Christian fundamentalists, the Bible is the most important book the world has ever known.
But the God who created the world and everything in it in six days was unable to write a book.
persuade.
The Torah / Christian “Old Testament” is the compilation of the tribal stories of the Jews. Jews make it very clear that this book is meant to apply to Jews only; there is absolutely no effort made to impose the Torah on any non-Jews. (Jews specifically state that all people who do not murder, steal, commit adultery, cause sexual harms, tear off the flesh of living animals are considered respectable.)
The Christian New Testament is the compilation of the stories written long after the deaths of the Apostles to focus on the teachings of Jesus. Christians saw how easy it was for Jews to be persecuted due to their small population and proceeded to convert as many people as possible to their new religion to make it safe from outside attacks. Christians say that only those who adhere to their Bible and its contents are respectable.
The difference is not the veracity of either scripture (or of the Q'ran), it is the purpose to which the writings are used.
Jews hold themselves accountable to learn from the Torah and use its teachings
Christians (and Muslims) seek to hold everyone accountable to their scriptures.
The bible itself is as solid a body of evidence as could be of its own fiction. Packed full of inconsistencies and obvious fantasy, the thing debunks itself as you read it. Unless you are highly suggestable, gullible, or otherwise lacking in the ability to distinguish truth from fiction, there is simply nothing believable in the entire book. You have to really, really want to believe if you are going to base your belief system on the myths and legends that are described in the bible. And if you want to believe that badly, no amount of physical laws or obvious reality will dissuade you. 900 year old people? Woman created as a servant from a rib of the first man? Worldwide flooding for 40 days and 40 nights? Skies darkened with many winged dragons and apocalyptic hellfire? A boat large enough for two of every species (many of which hadn't even been discovered yet…) and the food to feed them all built by one old man? And don't even get me started on Genesis or Leviticus. Only in the wildest fiction, sorry.
Because of circular reasoning:
Christian: the Bible is the Word of God! It is absolutely true.
Me: how do you know that?
Christian: because the Bible says so!
Me: circular reasoning is not evidence of anything. You make a claim, but that’s where it stops. There’s no foundation for it outside of circular reasoning.
Christian: you just have to have faith!
Me: where does your faith come from?
Christian: the Bible!
As to why so many people believe it and the stories it contains, the answer is down to one thing; indoctrination, the effectiveness of which is largely down to psychology.
Most religious people, regardless of what that religion is, have been indoctrinated with stories from the Bible from a very young age.
Basically a belief in the Bible, and religious belief generally, is all down to the behaviour of our brain, and the way in which it can be both persuaded to believe in even the most fanciful of things by way of religious indoctrination, and continually fooled by way of self- delusion and confirmation bias.
