Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke with Ukrainian Minister of Defence Rustem Umerov today to discuss recent developments on the ground and Ukraine's pressing security assistance needs. Secretary Austin and Minister Umerov reiterated the urgent need for the National Security Supplemental to support Ukraine's fight against Russian aggression and discussed plans for the next Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting.

The two leaders pledged to remain in close contact.

USS Annapolis Port Visit in Perth, Australia

USS Annapolis (SSN 760) arrived in HMAS Stirling in Perth, Western Australia Sunday.

This marks the second visit by a U.S. fast-attack submarine to HMAS Stirling since the announcement of the AUKUS [Australia, United Kingdom, United States] Optimal Pathway in March 2023. The Optimal Pathway is designed to deliver a conventionally armed, nuclear-powered attack submarine capability to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

DOD Amends Assisted Reproductive Services Policy for Severely Ill and Injured Active Duty Service Members

March 11, 2024

Under the amended policy, active duty service members with a qualifying illness or injury may now access this extended benefit regardless of their marital status, and they may now use donor gametes (sperm, egg, or both) and embryos, when procured at their own expense.
