An outbreak of violence on the Temple Mount, known to Muslims as al-Haram, al-Sharif could have impacted the possibility of a deal.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has approved a military operation for Rafah in Southern Gaza, that will also include the evacuation of civilians, his office said on Friday after the war cabinet met in the early afternoon.

The Rafah operation has been one of the levers Israel has used to pressure Hamas to make a deal for the return of the remaining 134 captives held in the enclave.

The international community has opposed the move fearing for the fate of the over 1.3 million Palestinians in the area of Rafah, many of whom fled there to escape bombing in northern Gaza.

The US has insisted that Israel must present a credible and realistic plan to protect civilians in Rafah, with US National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby saying on Thursday that the Biden administration has yet to see such a plan. Continue…

Matthew Norman Ballek, originally from Outlook, Saskatchewan, works for the World Bank and is a former employee of the Bank of Canada.

According to a press release from the District of Columbia United States Attorney's Office, 31-year-old Ballek was taken into custody on February 7 after being charged with the distribution of child pornography.

According to the indictment, on January 23, 2024, Ballek was caught in an undercover cyber operation for distributing three video files depicting adult males engaging in sexually explicit conduct with minors.

Ballek’s LinkedIn profile shows that at the time of his arrest, he was in Washington, D. C., and had been working for the last two years as a financial risk specialist for The World Bank.

Ballek's LinkedIn profile also states that he worked for the Bank of Canada for five years as a senior financial specialist and was a program manager in LGBT capital markets to "empower LGBT+ talent."

Documents reveal the Liberals’ Climate Change department paid the World Economic Forum (WEF) to produce a report that made an economic case for their environmental agenda, including the ever-increasing carbon tax.

In August 2019, the Environment and Climate Change (ECCC) department’s then-minister, Catherine McKenna, gave $493,937 of taxpayer dollars to the WEF to produce the report, as revealed in response to an Order Paper Question sent by Conservative MP Leslyn Lewis.

Specifically, the documents reveal the ECCC gave money “to enable [the WEF] to produce and disseminate a report that will establish the business and economic case for safeguarding nature.”

“This report will be directed at senior decision makers in governments and businesses who have the influence and ability to shift business-as-usual approach,” the ECCC stated. [Emphasis added]

Six months later, the WEF provided the Liberals exactly what they asked for.

In their report New Nature Economy Report Series, the WEF sourced papers favouring a carbon tax. Furthermore, the report’s policy recommendation stated “Carbon pricing should also be introduced.”

The report highlighted Colombia’s carbon scheme – where they tax liquid fossil fuels at $5/tonne – and pointed out that the taxes yielded revenues.

The Supreme Court of Canada said it will not hear an appeal challenging Manitoba’s lockdown restrictions filed by several churches.

Applicants in the appeal argued that the public health orders in 2020 and 2021 violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms by not allowing citizens to attend in-person religious services.

“Our clients are disappointed in the Supreme Court’s decision not to hear their appeal,” said Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms lawyer Allison Pejovic.

The JCCF is a legal advocacy group based in Calgary that works to help protect Canadians’ constitutional rights and freedoms.

“It was past time to have a conversation with Canada’s highest court about whether Charter-protected rights such as rights to worship and assemble ought to be prioritized over economic interests, such as ensuring that the Winnipeg Jets could practice indoors and that movie productions could continue,” said Pejovic.

After losing their argument in two lower courts, the applicants filed an appeal with the Supreme Court, which did not provide any details as to why it decided not to hear the case.

What is interesting is the way they are explaining the push, and also how they propose to make mass, worldwide adoption of digital IDs a reality. There’s also a corporate-speak cliche-in-the-making for all this: “digital transformation journey.”

The pairing that is the World Bank and Verizon makes sense because in order to have people’s identities and financial assets centralized in the way proposed by various digital ID schemes, they need to first have access to the internet.

A Hamilton, Ontario man, Bernard Josipovic, a father and husband who worked for DHL Express Canada as a unionized employee, driving a 5-ton truck delivering packages, has taken the company to a federal labor board challenging the company’s COVID-19 testing policy. Josipovic spoke with The Canadian Independent to tell his story.

DHL Express Canada, being federally regulated, operates under the federal governments Canada Labour Code. Industries like telecommunications, transportation, and banking, which fall under federal regulation, are subject to standardized employment conditions and practices enforced by the Canada Labour Code.

In 2022, DHL Express Canada introduced a COVID-19 testing policy at its Mount, Hope Ontario facility. The policy required employees who were not fully vaccinated to personally cover the expenses of undergoing a PCR or Rapid Antigen Test twice a week and provide proof of the test results.

Josipovic, who opted not to get vaccinated, expressed genuine concerns about the company’s COVID-19 testing policy and communicated these concerns to his employer. His primary worry revolved around whether the PCR test qualified as a genetic test and, if so, whether DHL Express Canada was potentially violating the Canadian federal Labour Code. Continue…
