The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry issued a statement about the normalization of relations with Israel on February 7. It declared that Saudi Arabia would not establish relations with Israel until the “brotherly Palestinian people obtain their legitimate rights”—the creation and recognition of an independent state with 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital. The statement refined and affirmed comments that Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan made in Davos three weeks earlier.

The announcement leaves Saudi security and interests to chance. The Saudi government is making the realization of relations between two countries, Israel and Saudi Arabia, contingent on the cooperation of a third party, the Palestinians. The need for diplomatic relations between Saud Arabia and Israel grows critical to maintaining security and stability in the Middle East as Iranian aggression escalates and American reliability deteriorates. The longer there are no diplomatic relations, the Saudis become more vulnerable. Over 750,000 fish are now dead in the Nishnabotna River after 1,500 tons of liquid nitrogen fertilizer spilled into the river.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources was notified about the spill by fertilizer company New Cooperative after a massive amount of nitrogen fertilizer spilled into a drainage ditch connected to the Nishnabotna River.

New Cooperative told Iowa DNR officials that the spill stemmed from a malfunctioning valve in a tank storing liquid nitrogen fertilizer that had gone unnoticed for several days.

Iowa DNR officials shared, “DNR Fisheries staff documented the fish kill occurring in all 49.8 miles of the East Nishnabotna and Nishnabotna Rivers downstream of the spill.”

Ontario school boards sue Meta, Tiktok for $4.5 billion for distracting students

Several Ontario school boards have filed lawsuits against social media giants TikTok and Meta, accusing them of inflicting damage on students’ mental health.

The suit alleges that the social media apps are interfering with students’ ability to learn and that teachers are left dealing with the “fallout” of those effects.

The suit also alleges that these platforms have led to increased violence, bullying and racism.

Four separate but similar suits were filed in Ontario’s Superior Court of Justice on Wednesday by public boards in Ottawa, Peel and Toronto as well as the Toronto Catholic board.

The claimants allege that the social media platforms in question were “designed for compulsive use (and) have rewired the way children think, behave, and learn.”

The suits are seeking $4.5 billion from the tech giants in damages for what they refer to as “widespread disruption to the education system.” Continue…
