In the morning after the defeat of a Conservative Party non-confidence vote to defeat the Trudeau government over its hated carbon tax, a Globe and Mail opinion piece sounding the alarm about “excessive free speech” seems even more outrageously egregious in its attack on essential liberties in Canada.

Lawrence Martin’s “Excessive free speech is breeding ground for more Trumps” is not just emblematic of the mainstream media’s fear of free speech in Canada, it might well be read in the affirmative — that Canadians could enjoy all the excessive free speech that their Charter of Rights is supposed to enshrine and that Canada could become a “breeding ground for more Trumps” or anyone who believes free speech is not a gift from the Trudeau government that can be taken away.

Boeing has announced that three of its top executives, including CEO Dave Calhoun, are stepping down amidst continued turmoil over the safety of its passenger jets.

The aerospace giant, which has been at the center of an escalating scandal since a serious incident involving a Boeing 737 Max plane, made the announcement on Monday.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Alaska flight 1282, a Boeing 737-9 MAX bound for Ontario, California, departed Portland, Oregon, just after 5 pm Pacific time earlier this year when a deactivated emergency door used as a regular cabin window blew out at 16,000 feet. Six crew members and 171 passengers were aboard the jet.

Dave Calhoun, who has served as President and CEO, will be stepping down at the end of 2024 but will remain at the helm through the year.

“As you all know, the Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 accident was a watershed moment for Boeing,” Calhoun wrote to employees on Monday, per CNBC.

“We must continue to respond to this accident with humility and complete transparency. We also must inculcate a total commitment to safety and quality at every level of our company.

“The eyes of the world are on us, and I know we will come through this moment a better company, building on all the learnings we accumulated as we worked together to rebuild Boeing over the last number of years,” he wrote.

Alongside him, Stan Deal, the CEO and president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and Chairman Larry Kellner, who has opted not to seek reelection at the next shareholders’ meeting, are also departing.

All of the arrests were of people who’d previously been charged by Ontario police and released with a court date.

“The accused failed to appear for court purposes or violated their release conditions, resulting in warrants being issued for their arrests,” said deputy commissioner Marty Kearns during a press conference in Hawkesbury, Ont.

New research from the University of Toronto finds that critical theory has become a fundamental part of the education curriculum since it was introduced in the 1990s. The findings come in a master’s thesis from Stephen Reich, titled Does Ontario’s Ministry of Education Promote Critical Theory in K-12 Education.

The thesis found that under the stewardship of Ontario’s sole NDP premier, Bob Rae, critical theory was introduced into the province’s education with amendments to the Education Act in 1992 to recognize the pursuance of anti-racism and ethnocultural equity policies.

“We’ve started consultations to prepare the next phase of emissions reduction, so post 2030, in Canada, in fact, going to 2035,” he added, saying that the Trudeau government will announce its future climate targets in 2025, “as per our United Nations commitments.”

“But by 2025, there’s no decision that has been made yet, other than we will continue increasing the price on pollution,” said Guilbealt.

According to the Pandora Papers database, David Yeo, an IT contractor formerly of Dalian Enterprises, incorporated the company ISBN Inc. in the British Virgin Islands in September 2011. On February 27, La Presse reported that Yeo also had a company by the same name in Curaçao, a Caribbean island.

On Tuesday, the Commons public accounts committee asked the contractor about his company operating out of offshore tax havens.

“According to what La Presse has found, you opened accounts in your name in tax havens on two occasions since 2011,” said Bloc Québécois MP Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné. “How much money did you put into tax havens, Mr. Yeo?”

He dodged the question, claiming that ISBN Inc. amounted to an “exercise” in entrepreneurship.

“As an entrepreneur, I’m very interested in international business,” he told the committee. “When I came back from Afghanistan, I looked into … international business, and that’s what led me to figuring out how to do international bank accounts and things like that.

The socialist mayor of Toronto is set to implement a “rain tax” on residents. You will be charged for however much rain falls on to your property.

The city’s proposal calls it a wastewater usage tax, and it’s based on the amount of rainwater generated from residents’ hard surfaces, such as driveways and roofs.

Though still in its feedback phase of consideration, the proposal currently states that properties with more hard surfaces would incur higher taxes, as these surfaces contribute to runoff that can overwhelm the city’s sewer system during storms.

Other than shock and mockery, many are questioning the feasibility of accurately measuring and enforcing taxes based on individual property characteristics.

A statement from the city says they would categorize residents according to their property size.

“For properties less than one hectare in size, there would be a tiered, flat rate stormwater charge based on the average hard surface area of all properties in each tier.”

“Property tiers are determined by property size ranges for different property types – residential, multi-residential and condominium, and industrial commercial and institutional,” it reads.

And the cycle of deficit spending is only escalating. According to documents released Friday by Canada’s Department of Finance, the Trudeau government had a budgetary deficit of $25.7 billion for the April 2023 to January 2024 period of the current fiscal year.

For the same period during the previous fiscal year, the Trudeau government posted a $6.4 billion deficit, about one-quarter of the more recent number.

In listing its financial record for the April to January period, the finance department noted that revenues had increased by $10.5 billion or 3 percent "largely reflecting higher personal income tax revenue, other taxes and duties, and other non-tax revenues. These increases were partially offset by lower corporate income tax revenues."

However, program expenses were more than twice that amount, registering at $21.2 billion or 6.7 percent, "reflecting increases across all major categories of spending."

The net result has been an increase of public debt charges of $10.4 billion, or 36 percent, "largely reflecting higher interest rates, offset in part by lower Consumer Price Index adjustments on Real Return Bonds."

Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland is expected to deliver her annual budget on Apr.16. It is widely expected to include a deluge of spending programs as the Liberal government continues to trail the Official Opposition Conservative Party by up to 20 percentage points.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau infamously said that the "budget will balance itself" and in 2015 promised to balance the budget in four years.

"I think one of the things that Canadians expect is a level of fiscal responsibility that we've been able to demonstrate in the past and we're certainly going to demonstrate it in the future."

Residents of Duncan, BC, are outraged after young girls at an aquatic centre were assaulted by a male in the women's change room.

Resident Saige Point posted a video to Facebook that shows a man with a beard in the women’s change room at the Cowichan Aquatic Centre approaching the camera boasting about being a “lady with a beard.”

“I could identify as a lady with a beard. There’s nothing you can do about it,” the man says to the camera, while a woman tries to move him away from the children present in the room.

Democracy Watch in court to implicate Trudeau regarding WE Charity grant

A democratic watchdog made arguments at the Federal Court of Appeal on Monday that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau broke ethics laws in the approval of grants for WE Charity.

The court case, filed in 2021 by Democracy Watch (DWatch), challenges Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion’s May 2021 ruling on Prime Minister Trudeau’s participation in the WE Charity grant approval process because the Commissioner made four key errors in letting Trudeau off even though Trudeau clearly violated the federal government ethics law.

The Attorney General of Canada (AGC) handles the case when the Ethics Commissioner is challenged in court, which is strange given the Ethics Commissioner issues rulings on the AGC and other members of the federal Cabinet.

Cases challenging Ethics Commissioner rulings go straight to the FCA. In 2021, the AGC filed a motion to try to stop the case, arguing that DWatch didn’t have standing to pursue the case and that errors in the Commissioner’s rulings can’t be challenged in court.

Justice Stratas of the FCA ruled in December 2022 that DWatch had public interest standing to pursue the case, but he then ruled in February 2023 that the FCA had to first consider whether section 66 of the Conflict of Interest Act (which is known as a “partial privative clause”) prohibits challenging errors in the Commissioner’s rulings in court.

The ruling on this Stage 1 issue in the case will set a precedent that not only determines whether DWatch’s case challenging errors in the Ethics Commissioner’s ruling will go ahead, but also determines whether anyone can challenge errors in the rulings of any federal agency, board, commission or tribunal that has a “partial privative clause” in the law that governs it.
