As the pandemic spread throughout winter 2020, many Canadians donned face masks believing they would offer protection from COVID-19. They also followed the guidance of health authorities to “socially distance” themselves, to “stay home, stay safe,” to lock down “non-vital” businesses, to limit public assembly, and to close schools, parks, beaches, and outdoor recreational and exercise venues.

In clinical speak, these unprecedented measures are known as “non-pharmaceutical interventions,” or NPIs.

Why did so many Canadians submit themselves so willingly to NPIs? Because public health authorities said these things would keep them safe, and were backed by science. But did our public health authorities actually follow the science? Or did they essentially make it up? Continue…

Four in five Canadians oppose the upcoming pay raise for members of Parliament, according to a new poll.

While the poll showed that 80% of Canadians oppose the hike, only 13% support it, with 7% unsure.

The federal director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Franco Terrazzano, said the findings of the Leger poll are decisive.

“The poll results are crystal clear: Canadians don’t think MPs deserve another pay raise,” he said. “It looks like the only Canadians who strongly support an MP pay raise are probably the politicians themselves.”

Of the 80% against the hike, just over three-quarters strongly oppose it, with the rest somewhat opposed.

The results reflect a consistent trend, mirroring the two previous years, where 80% and 79% of respondents opposed MPs getting pay raises.

MPs are granted yearly salary adjustments that mirror the average wage growth in union contracts with large corporations employing 500 staff or more. Continue…

A United Airlines flight from Tel Aviv encountered severe turbulence before its scheduled landing at Newark International Airport. The turbulence resulted in injuries to seven passengers, prompting the pilots to divert the flight to Stewart International Airport, where emergency crews were on standby to assist injured passengers.

According to ABC 7 New York, seven passengers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. About 30 people of the 320 total passengers were evaluated for medical care. Continue…
