The House debates and votes on a bill to diminish the use of TikTok in the U.S.
The House likely debates the bill sometime in the 9 am et hour. A vote likely comes around 10 am et with a result by 10:30 am et.
2) The bill requires a 2/3 vote to pass.
With 432 current members of the House, that number is 288 if all members cast ballots. But rarely do all members vote. So the threshold to pass the bill is likely in the 280s.
3) We don’t know the exact number required until we determine how many members vote.
The bill is expected to pass with wide bipartisan support.
But watch to see if some of President Trump’s concerns about the bill suppresses the GOP support.
4) Some members from both sides believe the process is rushed. They also worry that the legislation harms businesses which use TikTok and tramples on the First Amendment.
Opponents of the bill have flooded Congressional phone lines in recent days.
5) The legislation faces a rocky future in the Senate even if the bill passes the House. Senators aren’t willing to go as far as the House. Plus, the Senate has not advanced legislation through committee yet.
6) But a robust , bipartisan vote - especially more than 300 yeas - could compel the Senate to act.
