Here We Go: Scientists Now Want to Dehydrate the Stratosphere to Combat "Global Boiling"

By Jim Hᴏft Mar. 14, 2024 10:15 am

Scientists have proposed an audacious novel geoengineering technique: intentionally dehydrating the stratosphere.

A study published in Science Advances involves the ambitious and contentious idea of seeding the upper atmosphere with particles to prevent water vapor from entering in the stratosphere.

Study: https://www.science.org/doi/epdf/10.1126/sciadv.adk0593

Water vapor is important because it’s the most abundant greenhouse gas on Earth. The greenhouse effect occurs when gases in the atmosphere trap heat from the sun, keeping the planet livable. Water vapor is made up of complex molecules that absorb heat radiated from the Earth’s surface and re-radiate it back to the planet.

Water vapor is constantly cycling through the atmosphere, evaporating from the Earth’s surface, condensing into clouds, being blown by the wind, and then falling back to the Earth as rain or snow.

Researchers, led by Shuka Schwarz of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), argue that water vapor in the stratosphere plays a critical role in trapping heat from the Earth’s surface.

Science.org reported:

By targeting rising, moist air and seeding it with cloud-forming particles right before it crosses into the stratosphere, geoengineers could cool the world with an intervention far more delicate than other schemes. Drying the stratosphere might take as little as 2 kilograms of material a week, says Shuka Schwarz, the study’s lead author and a research physicist at the Chemical Sciences Lab of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). “That’s an amount of material that helps open the mind to imagine a whole bunch of possibilities.”

>Why was Mitch Albom in Haiti?

https://www.fox13news.com/news/mitch-alboms-haiti-rescue-leaves-author-heartbroken-as-he-leaves-orphans-behind

TAMPA, Fla. - Best-selling author Mitch Albom was one of 10 Americans rescued from the turmoil in Haiti in an overnight mission organized by Florida Congressman Cory Mills.

Albom, who is known for books such as ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’ and ‘The Five People you meet in Heaven’, makes frequent trips to the Caribbean nation said he, his wife, and eight volunteers had just arrived in Haiti at the beginning of March when chaos broke out.

"As soon as we got down there, the gangs started breaking into prisons and releasing all the prisoners, and next thing you know, the airports were shut, the ports were shut, the roads were shut, the borders were shut, and there was no way out," Albom recounted on the Brian Kilmeade Show.

Albom says many Americans, Canadians, and other international aid workers are still trapped in the country. He also says he feels sickened to have left behind the nearly 100 local orphans and workers at his facility.

"We went through what it was like to have our freedom taken away for eight or nine days, and it’s an awful feeling, but that’s what the Haitian people go through on a daily basis. Someone needs to do something about that," Albom said during a Fox News interview on Thursday. "If we had filled that helicopter with our kids somehow, they would have been turned away if we tried to land someplace else so our heart is with them and I call out on our leaders to try to do something in Haiti."

@RepJamesComer

is launching a government-wide investigation into the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing efforts to target, influence, and infiltrate every sector and community in the United States, including but not limited to America’s education, agriculture, critical infrastructure, research, energy, business, space, and technology sectors.

In nine letters sent to federal agencies today, Chairman Comer emphasized how Congress has a responsibility to ensure the federal government is effectively using existing resources to combat the CCP’s influence operations and strengthen our homeland. The Committee is therefore seeking information regarding what steps are being taken to thwart the CCP’s political and economic warfare campaign.

In the coming weeks and months, Chairman Comer intends to call on more U.S. agencies to provide information on how they are combatting CCP warfare and will lead several hearings to address this national security threat.

Pfizer chemical spill prompts no-contact advisory of Kalamazoo River

KALAMAZOO, MI — A no-contact advisory along a stretch of the Kalamazoo River was issued Wednesday afternoon after Pfizer notified the city of Kalamazoo of a chemical spill.

Pfizer notified the Kalamazoo Department of Public Services around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, that an estimated 1,057 gallons of methylene chloride had been released within the process area of the manufacturing facility located at 7000 Portage Road.

It is not known how much of the colorless liquid was discharged into a dedicated sanitary sewer serving Pfizer, which then flows to the Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant for treatment, according to a joint news release from the city of Kalamazoo and the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department.

All persons are being asked to avoid contact with the Kalamazoo River from Paterson Street Bridge in the city of Kalamazoo to the D Avenue Bridge in Cooper Township.

“We decided to issue a no-contact advisory for the stretch of river impacted by the methylene chloride release as a precautionary measure,” Kalamazoo County Health Officer Jim Rutherford said. “This advisory will remain in effect until further investigation and sampling indicates that there is no risk to public health.”

While the water reclamation plant is designed and permitted to treat up to 291 gallons per day of methylene chloride, the total volume of methylene chloride that reached the plant following Tuesday’s release is still not known, the release states.

Sampling of the Kalamazoo River within the identified area is ongoing and will continue as long as necessary until results can be analyzed and the advisory lifted.
