Elon is cramping muh style with the account needed and nitter nuke.

So can only drop 1 post of the thread

@Grummz

This is a doozy. There is a DEI Professor who has quietly raised a million dollars in grants over the the past week, capitalizing on the Sweet Baby Inc. controversy.

Homeland Security and the Canadian gov all announced programs to "investigate gamers" this past week, and it all ties back to this one, now very flush academic.

In my next tweet in this thread, I'm going to link the incredible research @MadamSavvy

has done to unravel this Doctor's elaborate funding scheme.

@DrKowert

the gamers have found you and your efforts to falsely attack gamers is now exposed.

@MadamSavvy

🧵🧵 Yesterday, I wrote about @TakeThisOrg

and their DHS grant. @Drkowert

Dr. Rachel Kowert is a very busy individual.

Canada announced a funding program on March 13 2024 to study violent extremism in video games, so lets unpack today the relationships and connections!

The federal government of Canada has announced more than $300,000 in funding awarded to a group to study how gaming communities can potentially create environments conducive to radicalization and violent extremism via gender-based analysis. The official post from Canada dot CA specifically states they are looking at how misogyny plays a role in extremist ideologies across geography.

Image

Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Public Safety, has approved this funding and are working with Extremism and Gaming Research Network through a partnership with the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies. The funding provided falls under the Community Resilience Fund- which aims to combat extreme violence in communities in Canada.

What is Extremism and Gaming Research Network? Lets unpack:

EGRN is a research network that aims to uncover how malign actors exploit gaming and inversely, they want to use gaming for good. Started in 2021, they boast more than 60 registered members and include many "top global think tanks and institutions". One of their core mission questions reads as such: How can gamers and gaming platforms be empowered to combat hate and facilitate building positive, resilient communities?

A direct quote from their website front page:

We also act as a bridge from gamer communities and small CSOs developing their own games, all the way to donor governments and international policymakers at the United Nationsthrough the mandated UN Office of Counter Terrorism (UNOCT) and other mandated UN agencies including UNDP and UNITAR.

Image

Some listed partners:

Image

If you scroll to their membership page, filed under individual members, the 5th one listed isDr. Rachel Kowert.Other members included are an ADL Belfer Fellow researcher, lecturers from various universities, and various counter terrorism individuals, along with "far right extremist experts".

Image

Under the research tab on the website under 'reports & research papers', they directly link to posts written by Dr. Rachel Kowert, linking to Take This Org and the second article listed is that from the ADL.

On the same page, they talk about conducting the first ever behavioral research within the gaming community of BRAZIL and their involvement with political action.

And you must be asking yourself, how does all of this connect back to @SweetBabyInc

?Dr. Kowert authored the blogpost from Take This Org "denouncing" gamergate 2and linking a @Kotaku

article defending SBI.

What Rachel's Doing Today

I am currently working on a two-yearproject funded by the Department of Homeland Security (in collaboration with with the Middlebury Institute of International Studies and Logically AI)examining the landscape of extremist radicalization and recruitment within digital gaming spaces. This project aims to establish a baseline of understanding for the unique characteristics of extremist activities within video game communities, build capacity within the gaming industry to prevent and counter violent extremism in these spaces, and create collaborative networks across public and private sectors.

U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations

Statement for the record by Brian Murphy, September 11, 2023

Thank you for the opportunity to speak with the committee today. Before I begin, I will offer my

qualifications. In 2021, I retired from federal service and joined Logically AI. The company’s

focus is to identify, at the speed and scale required, hostile influence operations occurring on the

internet. Many of these are generated by nations. My position at Logically is the Managing

Director for the company's U.S. operations. For this role, I maintain a Top Secret security

clearance. Additionally, I teach a master’s level course on domestic intelligence at Georgetown

University. Before joining Logically, I served as the Principal and Acting Under Security for

Intelligence for DHS (2018 to 2021). Among my job requirements was to identify foreign actors

attempting to influence the homeland covertly. Before DHS, I was a special agent with the FBI

for approximately 20 years. While there, I performed duties from street agent up to roles as a

national manager. I ran multiple programs looking at the intersection of behavior and hostile

activity. I began my federal service in 1994 as a United States Marine Corps officer.

To augment my work, I obtained a Ph.D. from Georgetown University, a Master of Arts from

Columbia University, and a Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary. In my

research, I focused on how foreign adversaries have conducted covert operations in the U.S. In

2023, I published a book on the topic, Foreign Disinformation in America and the U.S.

Government’s Ethical Obligations to Respond. I have also published several papers and speak

regularly about the topic. Some of my testimony is lifted directly from published works.

On Eagle Semen and lessons learned – False Gravity

Starting this month I’m selling my book “Eagle Semen” as an eBook through Amazon and Gumroad. It’s the story of how I quit my job as a producer of TechTV’s The Screen Savers in the worst possible way, and why.

What the book doesn’t really go into, though, is what happens after you write an email like that. At the time I thought I was walking away from working in television, and that it really wouldn’t matter what people would think of me for writing an email about all of them “drowning in eagle semen.” I was right and wrong.

As it turns out, I never did work in television again (nor do I intend to), but it does matter what people think of me. Not only did I manage to burn bridges with many of the people I worked with at TechTV (most of whom did me no wrong), but at every job interview since I’ve been asked to address that email, and there have been times when I’ve missed opportunities because of having written it.

I have zero regrets. After all, I’ve done alright. And the person I am today needed to be the person I was then. But one of the lessons I’ve learned over the years is that how you say goodbye matters just as much, if not more, than how you say hello. I’ve never again written such an angry farewell email.

That said, I’ve been tempted. And I’ve also been tempted to “revisit” the “eagle semen” email in sly ways. But in the end (no pun intended) I’ve tended to fall on the side of trying to inspire and encourage those I’m leaving behind, rather than intimidate them.

Below is an email I wrote (but never sent) when I was leaving Polygon in July of 2014. It’s a riff on the “eagle semen” email, but, I think, much more positive.

When men look to the sky, they see the eagle soar and feel shame that they, too, can’t fly. When eagles see men, they see all that man might be and know that some day man, too, will fly.

As you walk into the future that awaits you, don’t look to the sky and see the eagles and doubt that you belong among them. Instead, allow yourself to be filled with the spirit of what the eagles see in men, and know that one day, you too will soar.

If you want to read the original “eagle semen” email, as well as the story of how I worked up to writing it, you can buy my eBook “Eagle Semen” for $1.99 at Gumroad, or $2.99 at Amazon.

Get Eagle Semen

(For those who are curious, below is the actual email (slightly edited to remove confidential company information) I sent to my colleagues when Ieft Polygon.)

My dear friends and colleagues,

You’ve all probably heard by now: I will be leaving Polygon, effective June 27.

When I spoke with Vox in November of 2011 about helping to start Polygon, I thought it was a company led by crazy people. The plan they shared with me, to build websites based on quality first, driven by premium advertising, was one I knew well. We tried it at The Escapist, and I believed in it there (hey, Webbys) and still believe in it now.

But focusing on quality first is a risky play. It takes time and money and a commitment to persevere in the face of impending doom. Many media companies simply don’t have the will to pull it off.

Anonymous ID: afd212 March 14, 2024, 11:59 a.m. No.20567133   🗄️.is 🔗kun   >>7144 >>7199 >>7202

>>20567119

>bunch of fucking weirdos

Vox had the will. Vox believed it could execute, deliver on quality and build a business on top of it. And it convinced me to help try. I couldn’t resist the opportunity.

So I joined this company led by crazy people and guess what? We did it! We built Polygon, and everything we’ve done at Polygon has been of the highest quality. And people noticed. And we became envied, admired and even feared. And we did all of that in just two years.

Features has been just one part of that, but it’s obviously the part of which I am the most proud. Working with Charlie and Matt and Jake and Warren and Tom and Jimmy and Caleb and Tyson and Ally and Jon Douglas and all of you to write, edit, design, film, illustrate and publish Polygon’s amazing longform features has been the fullest experience of my life so far. We created two of the most exciting and interesting products I’ve ever been a part of, in the longform feature-meets-video series ‘Press Reset’ and ‘Human Angle.’ We touched the humanity of game design in a way that few outlets had done before us, and few will successfully copy after. And this passion for quality and humanity is one of the things we are best known for now.

Simply put, these past three and a half years have been the fulfillment of a very long-held dream for me. A crazy dream, perhaps, but living it out has nevertheless been amazing. And I thank you all for every part you played in it, big and small.

But things change.

As Vox continues to tighten its operations — becoming less crazy maybe — it has become clear to me that the time for what I can positively contribute to Polygon has come to an end, and that now is the time for a graceful exit.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be wrapping up existing stories and helping the features team transition to operating in my permanent absence. After that, apart from finally diving into personal writing projects and giving takethis.org some long overdue attention, I have no idea where I will end up.

Wherever I go I will leave a substantial piece of my heart behind with all of you, at this place we built together with our passion, our hard work and our dreams.

Thank you all for making all of it feel worth something. Best of luck with everything that you do in the months and years ahead.

Keep dreaming,

-R

P.S. I’ll still be here for a few weeks, so don’t make it awkward and act like I’m dead.

ILLFONIC PROMOTES SHANNON GERRITZEN TO HEAD OF PUBLISHING

Post author:Vic

Post published:November 1, 2023

Post category:Gaming / Home

November 1, 2023 (Lakewood, Colorado) – IllFonic is thrilled to announce the promotion of Shannon Gerritzen, former Vice President of Marketing and Communications, to Head of Publishing. Gerritzen’s new role answers the call to IllFonic’s recent move to publish fellow indie studios’ games, starting with Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game. She will now oversee the publishing arm of IllFonic, which will now include the Marketing and Communications departments while exploring new business opportunities.

This move is no surprise to those who know her; Gerritzen carries over 11 years of gaming experience, five of which have been with IllFonic. With a background spread across hardware, eSports, and game development, Gerritzen’s keen vision has grown the marketing department from two (including herself) to twelve employees, not counting the numerous global agency partners and contractor aid. She has worked tirelessly on Predator; Hunting Grounds, Arcadegeddon, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, and now, Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Her unmatched talent will surely bring continued success to what’s next for IllFonic.

“Shannon has been growing the marketing and communication side of IllFonic for the past five years. She continues to make key power moves that put IllFonic in a position to publish our own titles and work with external studios,” Chief Executive Officer Charles Brungardt remarks. “There is no one better to run IllFonic Publishing than Shannon. Our industry is rapidly changing; with Shannon at the publishing helm, our team is confident her abilities will drive IllFonic’s internal and external project focus while positioning us for success.”

Before Gerritzen’s time in gaming, she worked as an advocate for our oceans and waterways. She led the efforts for the non-profit Surfrider Foundation in Washington State and assisted in British Columbia, to protect our waters on city, state, and federal levels.

“I’ve leaned on my past experiences in PR and events to shape how I look at marketing a game.” Gerritzen reflects. “I now look forward to growing the publishing department. I want to bring games and IPs to IllFonic that we are fans of. We create worlds we want to play in; it’s at the core of our passion and every game we make.”

Outside of work, Gerritzen is a proud mother to two grown sons. She is an avid hula dancer, tennis player, and mentor, often found on her standup paddleboard or riding a wave off the West Coast. This fashionista and traveling road warrior is full of tales as she is a true Renaissance Woman living in 2023.
