Maryland teacher accused of sexually abusing children as young as 6 is illegal El Salvadoran immigrant who was previously deported twice: ICE
Ervin Jeovany Alfaro Lopez, 33, has been accused of sexually abusing at least three minors between the ages of 6 and 12 years old.
On Monday, police arrested a Maryland teacher on child sex abuse charges. Authorities revealed that the teacher is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador and had been previously deported.
Ervin Jeovany Alfaro Lopez, 33, has been accused of sexually abusing at least three minors between the ages of 6 and 12 years old. Police said the abuse occurred between 2016 and 2018 at the Elim Gaithersburg Church he had been teaching at in Maryland.
Lopez has been charged with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree sex offense, and third-degree sex offense, according to WUSA9.
Court documents state that Lopez inappropriately touched his students when their eyes were closed for prayer and when they were watching movies. He allegedly admitted to his pastor that he had touched a girl inappropriately and that the issue had been "dealt with internally."
Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that Lopez is an illegal immigrant who had been previously deported in 2015.

South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia and Ivory Coast hit by major internet outages
Major internet disruption has been reported in various countries across Africa.
Outages have been reported in countries including South Africa, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Ghana and Burkina Faso.
The cause of the cable failures is not immediately clear.
"There seems to be a pattern in the timing of the disruptions, impacting from the north to the south of Africa," said Cloudflare Radar, which provides information on internet connections.
Internet connectivity in the Ivory Coast was down to around just 4% on Thursday morning, according to Netblocks, which tracks cybersecurity and internet connectivity.
Liberia at one point dropped to 17% while Benin was at 14% and Ghana 25%, Netblocks said.
In South Africa, Vodacom said that "customers are currently experiencing intermittent connectivity issues due to multiple undersea cable failures".

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has commended a border guard who killed a young Palestinian boy playing in occupied East Jerusalem, describing the 12-year-old child as a “terrorist.”
In posts to his Telegram channel on Tuesday, Ben-Gvir claimed the border officer “shot a terrorist” who had tried to “use firecrackers” against Israeli forces the night prior, arguing the guard did “exactly what was expected of him” in executing the unarmed preteen.
“I salute the soldier who killed the terrorist who tried to shoot fireworks at him and the troops. This is exactly how you should act against terrorists – with determination and precision,” he added in another post.

Biden Administration Plans to Use Guantanamo Bay as Processing Center for Haitian Migrants
The U.S. military has prepared its naval station in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for a possible influx of Haitian migrants even as gang violence in the country has subsided in recent days, a top operational commander said Thursday.
Army Gen. Laura Richardson, who leads U.S. Southern Command, told senators that her staff has prepped for the worst in case the crisis in Haiti leads to mass migration. Southern Command oversees military activities in Central and South America as well as the Caribbean.
“Everything is refreshed — the equipment, everything is ready to go,” she said during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing. “As we work through all our contingency plans, I assure you that U.S. SOUTHCOM and the Department of Defense are ready to go.”
The Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba is located about 200 miles from Haiti and has a center to process migrants that is separate from the facility that holds terrorist suspects. The White House is reportedly discussing whether to expand capacity at the migrant center.
Several lawmakers expressed concern this week that droves of Haitians will attempt to flee the country after armed gangs launched widespread attacks on government structures, businesses and homes. Most of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, is under gang control and flights are suspended.
“[Florida families] are worried about how this instability in the region — to not only include Haiti but all of [the] SOUTHCOM theater — could possibly stoke a mass migration event in my state,” said Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla.
