Najib’s arrest makes global news
KUALA LUMPUR, July 4: The arrest of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak yesterday by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has made global news.
International newswires like Reuters, AFP, Xinhua and broadcasters like BBC and Al-Jazeera and others have been following closely the developments after Najib was arrested at his residence in Jalan Langgak Duta here at 2.35 pm yesterday by the MACC.
Najib has been under intense media scrutiny of late but his arrest was the lead story in many media platforms.
A leading daily in Australia, ‘The Australian’, gave a thorough report on the front page on the events relating to Najib’s arrest while the United Kingdom-based ‘The Guardian’ also highlighted prominently all news relating to Najib and the scandal-tainted 1MDB fund.
Earlier today, Najib was charged with three counts of Criminal Breach of Trust (CBT) and one count of abuse of power in connection with SRC International Sdn Bhd funds totalling RM42 million. SRC International was formerly a subsidiary of the controversial 1MDB sovereign fund.
