RFK Jr. Destroys His Candidacy With VP Pick

Authored by Roger L. Simon via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

I interviewed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Epoch TV’s “Roller Coaster” series and also attended one of his birthday parties. In both instances, I liked the man, found him to be intelligent and personable, and also unafraid to take stands against the über-conformist Democratic Party, notably on health care and, to some degree, on the dangers of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. holds a voter rally in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Feb. 10, 2024. (Mitch Ranger/The Epoch Times)

Although I have been an unabashed Donald Trump supporter since he came down the escalator and continue to be so, I would not have been disappointed, even pleased, had former President Trump chosen Mr. Kennedy as his vice-presidential candidate.

Unlikely as it may have been, it could have helped bring our fractured country together.

No longer.

If reports are true—and, in that regard, the website name www.kennedyshanahan.com was reportedly registered by one of his campaign operatives on March 13—Mr. Kennedy has chosen attorney Nicole Shanahan as his running mate.

I find this bizarre, to say the least, not to mention disappointing.

Whatever his intentions, such a ticket would drive this country even further apart because Ms. Shanahan is a self-described “progressive.” But that’s only the tip of a disturbing iceberg I will get to in a minute.

Let’s start with this. Mr. Kennedy, of all people, should know that the basic requirement for a vice presidential candidate, now more than ever, is that a person be qualified to assume the presidency at a moment’s notice.

We have had disasters in that regard, dodging several bullets, including vice presidents Spiro Agnew, Mike Pence, and (for now, holding one’s breath) Kamala Harris.

Mr. Trump has made clear that qualification for the presidency is now his first consideration, as it should be.

What do we know of Ms. Shanahan?

Not much, except that she is a philanthropist to largely progressive causes and that she is very rich.

She reportedly helped pay for Mr. Kennedy’s Super Bowl ad to the tune of $4 million via a Super PAC. The ad got mixed reviews and ended up with the candidate apologizing to his family

How rich Ms. Shanahan really is is unclear, but it is clear the bulk of her money comes from her divorce from Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google and, depending on the source, the ninth richest man on the planet.

RFK Jr’s campaign had been luffing and needed a boost. He looked to the financial. It’s hard to blame him, because that’s the putrid state of American politics. But if you’re trying to run an honest broker campaign against corrupt traditional parties, it’s not the best approach. It’s actually a turn-off.

This is rather sad because of the optimism and excitement he initially engendered.

It was said that much of RFK Jr’s appeal was with the more libertarian right, not the increasingly leftist Democrats. I thought that was accurate. I would imagine that unfortunately those days are over if the nomination of the “progressive” Ms. Shanahan is real. Who will RFK Jr. appeal to now?

Of course the candidate is not confirming this nomination until March 26. We shall see.

I actually didn’t know he was still a candidate. Kek

Gingrich: Trump "Is The Most Powerful Anti-Establishment Politician Since Andrew Jackson," A Threat To Every Corrupt Politician

Former Speaker of the House and FOX News contributor Newt Gingrich on Wednesday called the New York justice system corrupt and likened it to the Tom Wolfe book "Bonfires Of Vanities" in an interview with FOX News host Sean Hannity. On 'Hannity,' Gingrich said "Trump is a unique case because he is the most powerful anti-establishment politician since Andrew Jacksonso he's an enormous threat to every corrupt politician in the country from Joe and Hunter Biden down through New York and on to California. And that's what we are witnessing."

NEWT GINGRICH: I thank you need to back up a minute and take a long view. You have a totally corrupt New York system. It's crept corrupt the governor to the state legislature to the judges to the prosecutors. Basically it is the Sopranos running the government. It's totally corrupt. We were first given a brilliant insight into this by Tom Wolfe in a novel called "Bonfire of the Vanities" 40 years ago where he outlined the depth of corruption between the prosecutor and the judge. Nothing has changed, it just got worse.

So let's start with this notion: New York is now a corrupt state. New York City is a corrupt city. Any business that does business in New York is stupid because you are at risk of a corrupt prosecutor and a corrupted Attorney General ripping you off. Now, Trump is a unique case because he is the most powerful anti-establishment politician since Andrew Jackson so he's an enormous threat to every corrupt politician in the country from Joe and Hunter Biden down through New York and on to California. And that's what we are witnessing.

We're looking at the larger historical picture. This is a deeply corrupted state was [is] driving people out of the state. I think the latest number is 600,000 taxpaying New Yorkers have left. And you'll see it in the size of the state government's budget deficit. The same thing happened in California. The corruption of Sacramento is driving people out of the state and their budget deficit I believe this year will be $51 billion. These states are totally out of control. Donald Trump happens to be the example, but he's an example of a deeply, deeply corrupt system.

HANNITY: Let me ask you about the election. The way I'm seeing things Joe Biden is losing his base in massive numbers, that to me that's an opportunity. Your thoughts? How would you seize on that opportunity? How would you take advantage of that opportunity?

GINGRICH: This might surprise you. I think that the country wants ideas more than anger. I think that the country wants to see a presidential candidate in the big cities. I hope that Trump will plan for 7 or 8 or 9 speeches from Philadelphia to Baltimore to New York to Boston to Chicago to San Francisco. The voters of San Francisco 2 to 1 voted to require drug testing if you're going to get welfare. Now that is a big shift.

And I think there is a country out there that would love to have a presidential candidate unifying vision or he should align himself with Elon Musk layout a space program for the next decade that would inspire every young American to believe they had a great dynamic future. If Trump will be positive and aggressive and go everywhere, African-Americans, Latino-Americans, Asian-Americans, Native-Americans, young people.

Young people is the biggest drop in Biden support because all of a sudden they discovered being woke means you're not going to get a job, you're not going to buy a car,you will have to live with your parents, you have no future. They started figuring out that's not a very good deal. And of course today the Biden administration announced their plan to force every American to buy an electric vehicle whether they want to or not, a positive of which 2/3rds of the country is totally opposed to. And that just gives you 1 more example you have a left-wing which is crazy and a president who is suffering from cognitive problems and his family is totally corrupt.

Donald Trump may not pay bond — and instead let Letitia James seize Trump Tower: insiders

Story by Jennifer Gould • 1d

As Donald Trump faces a Monday deadline to post a $454 million bond in the civil fraud case against him in New York, insiders said he may be weighing a little-discussed option: Doing nothing.

The ex-president reportedly has been struggling to raise the cash for the bond — either from banks or wealthy friends — with his lawyers claiming on Monday that it was a “practical impossibility.”

While some reports have raised speculation that Trump may “go nuclear” with a Chapter 11 filing to protect his prize real estate assets across Manhattan, experts said bankruptcy would create unwelcome complications as the 2024 election season comes to a head.

“He’s been there and done that,” one insider close to Trump said, dismissing the prospect of a Chapter 11 filing.

A third possibility, however, is to let the deadline pass, leaving it to New York Attorney General Letitia James to seize Trump’s bank accounts or buildings — including Trump Tower, from which he declared his 2016 presidential run, and which famously includes his personal penthouse.

It’s an option Trump appears to have considered – partly because he believes the chances are good that he could recover the assets on appeal, even if he is forced to take his case to the US Supreme Court, according to friends.

“Even if there is a taking, it doesn’t mean he can’t take it back later,” a source close to Trump told The Post.

A decision to do nothing poses risks of its own — among them that the New York AG’s Office has the right to sell off any properties it confiscates in order to recover the cash penalties it is owed.

“They are going after the money and that’s all he has a right to get back, not the buildings — unless the judgment is reversed before they are sold,” said Adam Leitman Bailey, a New York-based attorney who’s focused on the commercial real estate sector.

What will happen if Trump can’t post $454M bond in his civil fraud case by Monday’s deadline?

Sources friendly with Trump say the ex-president believes he has a strong case. Among other considerations, if the decision is not overturned, “it will have a chilling effect on people who do business in New York because it could happen to anyone,” according to one insider.

“There will be severe consequences — not an insurrection. People will stop doing business in New York. No one will take the risk, and lenders are now spooked. The real estate market is already a disaster, with office buildings worth a fraction of what they were once worth, and there are metastasizing effects when a large part of the city’s budget is from real estate.”

One source close to Trump insisted that he could raise funds from wealthy “friends and supporters,” but so far has not chosen this path.

“He’s not an ‘I’m passing the hat’ man — he doesn’t want pity or for anyone to feel sorry for him,” the source claimed. “He will do what he has to do. He has plenty of wealthy friends who would help him if asked, but he’s not asking, as far as I’m aware.”
