Physicians Describe ‘Most Appalling Atrocities’ in Gaza

A group of four critical-care doctors who were recently in Gaza spoke on a UN panel about the horrors they witnessed in the besieged Strip. The doctors described multiple war crimes, horrendous injuries to children, kids dying of treatable wounds, and a shortage of supplies so severe that young patients die on the floors of hospitals without anesthetic to ease their suffering.

Addressing the UN on Tuesday, four physicians from France, the US, and Britain described the dire conditions in Gaza. “I saw the most appalling atrocities, and I saw things that I never would have expected to have seen in any healthcare setting,” Dr. Nick Maynard told the panel.

Maynard said that Israeli forces were bombing Gaza indiscriminately and intentionally attacking healthcare facilities, noting that some media outlets had uncritically repeated Tel Aviv’s assertion that it was carefully targeting Hamas. “I want to just dispel some of the narratives coming from the Israelis, [and] from some of the media,” which claimed the bombs were “only targeting Hamas.”

“I can certainly bear witness, as can any medic who’s been on the ground in Gaza in recent months, [and] dispel that notion with absolute certainty,” he continued. “There is mass indiscriminate bombing killing many, many thousands of civilians and a very clear targeting of healthcare facilities and healthcare workers.”

Maynard’s first-hand account is backed by Israeli and US sources. The White House has known for several months that Tel Aviv is bombing targets in Gaza without “solid intelligence” indicating any military value. President Biden himself previously described the Israeli onslaught as “indiscriminate,” while the Tel Aviv-based +972 Magazine detailed Israel’s intentional strikes on civilian “power targets” in what it dubbed an “assassination factory.”

Dr. Zaher Sahloul explained the toll the indiscriminate bombing has taken on the civilians in Gaza. “The number of children killed is 13,000 or so or more. Which means, one out of 100 children in Gaza has been killed and this is an astronomical number; the equivalent of that in the US would be half a million children,” he said.

“Of the 70,000 people who were injured, half of them have moderate to severe injuries. That means they will have some type of disability for the rest of their lives,” Sahloul continued before adding the numbers are likely an undercount.

Dr. Thaer Ahmad stated he was providing care to wounded Palestinians at the Nassar Hospital in Khan Younis before Israeli forces surrounded, raided, and disabled the medical center. He said aid could not enter the Strip and that doctors did not have the medicines needed to treat patients.

'Didn't even thank us': Sara Netanyahu complains over hostage release credit - report

Although the wife of the Prime Minister does not have any formal position in government, Sara is known to have a significant influence on the Prime Minister's choices.

Sara Netanyahu is reported to have complained about the lack of thanks she or her husband had received for releasing the hostages, according to a Thursday evening report by N12.

According to the report, A female Member of the Knesset from the opposition met with Sara Netanyahu last week to try and promote the release of the hostages, asking her to try and use her position as the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to do so.

Although the prime minister's wife has no formal position in government, unlike presidential systems in the US or France, Sara is known to have a significant influence on the Prime Minister's choices.

Following the release of Gilad Schalit in 2011, Sara claimed she was responsible for freeing him, and due to that, many still pin their hope on her to influence the Prime Minister.

Among several other statements, the MK reported that Sara had bemoaned the lack of thanks she and her husband had received for releasing the hostages.

The nearly $6 billion in student loan relief applies to teachers, nurses and firefighters who, due to previous failures with the system, did not receive the forgiveness they were promised for going into public service.

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) was created in 2007 and aimed to forgive student debt for Americans who entered jobs in public service – but most never received their promised relief.

"The chair of Israel's investigative committee into rape on 10/7 by Hamas, [Cochav Elkayam-Levy], presents an old image of dead female Kurdish fighters as women sexually assaulted at the Nova music fest," Max Blumenthal said at the time.

"During a 11/12 talk for Harvard's Maimonides Society, Elkayam referred to 'an image of a woman stripped from the waist down… photographed on the side of the Nova music festival,'" he added. "This image was originally published on the anonymous Hamas-Massacre website promoted by Israel's govt, but removed [without] acknowledgment after I demonstrated it was first published in 2022 and showed dead female Kurdish fighters. 35 arrests in coordinated raid against violent watch snatchers

Naples-based robbers were targeting luxury watch owners in tourist hot spots and major cities across Europe

On an action day executed in Naples today, the Italian National Police raided several locations and arrested 8 members of a criminal group responsible for violent watch robberies across Europe. This latest swoop brings law enforcement’s tally to 35 street thugs caught in this international operation coordinated by Europol, as 27 arrests had already been made over the last months. While the criminals were most active in Spain, hitting major cities and tourist hot spots, robberies executed by the same group were reported across major cities in all involved countries.

The criminals’ technique was as unsophisticated as it was effective. Operating in gangs of three to five members, one accomplice would stake out potential victims in establishments such as fine-dining restaurants or upper-scale hotels. Once they had identified a person wearing an expensive wristwatch, the victim would be observed and followed by a gang member in anticipation of the ideal opportunity. Acting fast and, when necessary, with violence, the other gang members would assault the watch owner, detach the expensive timepiece from the owner’s wrist and typically flee on a scooter.

Europe-wide pattern identified at Europol

An almost exponential increase in the price of luxury watches in recent years has incentivised criminals to increase targeted robberies. Certain rare timepieces have a market price that far exceeds the retail price, which regularly lies in the four or five digits. Typically, these types of robberies would be investigated at local level. However, with incidents of ruthless watch robberies being reported across Europe, national law enforcement authorities shared this information with Europol, where a pattern of organised crime was identified.

After sharing analytical findings with its partners, Europol invited investigators from the Naples Squadra Mobile and other involved law enforcement authorities for operational meetings to discuss the gathered intelligence picture. Based on the information at hand, the partners issued European Arrest Warrants for the remaining 8 Italian suspects based in Naples. Europol coordinated the international action day against the criminals and deployed staff to Italy during the raids. The investigation and the action day itself were supported by the @ON Network funded by the EU Commission, led by the Italian Antimafia Investigation Directorate (DIA).
