Julian Assange entered the Ecuadorian embassy in London in August 2012.12 Assange feared that if he were extradited to Sweden he might be extradited on to the US, where he could face charges over WikiLeaksโ publication of secret US government files. In December 2010, he appeared at an extradition hearing in the UK, where he was granted bail. Following a legal battle, the courts ruled Assange should be extradited to Sweden.1 Assange was in court challenging a proposed extradition from the UK to Sweden on grounds of alleged sexual assault against two women.0 In April 2019, Assange was arrested in London on behalf of the US after the Ecuadorian government withdrew the asylum they granted him in 2012.
