it may have to do with them trying to not get stuck in the shallows also its not a uniform depth in that area so maybe they were trying to avoid something else but then hit the bridge. Too many things to speculate this early on but its also when the most conflicting stories and truth is usually told just like after a shooting.

what is weird is was that bridge supposed to be shut down that night so that only a work crew would be on it. I just can not imagine a major road like that being totally absent of cars even at that time of night. I hate this white hat idea but when combined with like you said the weird factor. Shit.

from what I saw earlier it was either fully shut down or partially shut down for work crews. If it was an attack they would do it when it was most likely to cause the most death and destruction which would be around rush hour not in the middle of the night. It does not rule out a controlled attack but via, hijacking or something, but at this point it is just as likely a drunk captain.

Hazelwood with the Valdez?

It was always speculated but never fully proven. They might just be asian and that is why they needed two bad drives to make one semi competent one.
