MTN Uganda, a unit of the South African telecoms firm, said security personnel had raided its data and disconnected four of its servers.

The firm said in a July 3 letter to the state-run telecommunications regulator that it had "reported to police a case of illegal intrusion into the data centre and the disconnection of the four information servers."

The regulator Uganda Communications Commission (UCC)'s top official confirmed to Reuters receipt of the letter.

"Yes, yes I have seen on social media that letter. I don't know who leaked it but I received it, yes. They were complaining that they were raided," Godfrey Mutabazi told Reuters.

MTN Uganda is the country's largest telecommunications firm with a subscriber base of above nine million.

In the letter the company said men who said they were from Uganda Internal Security Organisation (ISO), a security agency in charge of domestic intelligence, had on July 2 also kidnapped an employee of its contractor, Huawei Technologies.

The security personnel then forced the employee to grant them access to a data centre in a suburb of Kampala where they then proceeded to forcefully disconnect four servers.

"This incident poses a serious security risk to our telecommunications infrastructure and customer data," MTN said.

Police spokesman, Emirian Kayima told Reuters he was "aware of the letter but I am verifying at the moment. I can't comment for now."

Broward Circuit Judge John Patrick Contini resigned Friday, becoming the county’s sixth sitting judge to leave office in 2018 before the end of his term.

His resignation took effect at 5 p.m. Friday.

Contini was first elected in 2014 and was assigned to the criminal court, where he quickly found himself clashing with the Broward State Attorney’s Office over allegations that he was playing favorites with defense lawyers, offering one advice on seeking leniency for clients.

The disagreement escalated to a Judicial Qualifications Commission complaint, a voluntary transfer to the family division, and a public reprimand from the Supreme Court last February.

In testimony before a JQC panel, Contini admitted to making a “rookie mistake” and said he underestimated the challenge of transitioning from an advocate to a judge. “Thankfully, I've learned the hard way from this costly lesson,” Contini said after the reprimand.

The JQC agreed that Contini deserved to remain in office and praised the judge for accepting responsibility for his error in judgment.

Contini is the sixth judge in Broward to leave office this year. Another seven are due to retire when their terms expire at the end of the year.

Contini declined to comment Friday.

OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — An Oklahoma state senator that pleaded guilty to child sex trafficking now has a sentencing date in federal court.

Court documents filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma show that Ralph Shortey will face a sentencing hearing at 10 a.m. Sept. 5.

Shortey pleaded guilty to a federal charge of child sex trafficking in November 2017. He was a two-term Republican state senator at the time of his March 2017 arrest.

According to court records, Moore police made contact with Shortey in March 2017 at the Super 8 Hotel on N. I-35 Service Road. Shortey was inside the hotel room alone with a 17-year-old male.

Officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana in the room and found a container with a small amount of the drug inside. Police also found an open box of condoms and a bottle of lotion in Shortey's backpack inside the room.

Court documents show officers learned of a conversation between Shortey and the juvenile on the messaging app "Kik". Police determined Shortey used the alias "Jamie Tilley" and the username "Brinokc4u" during the conversation.

Police say the juvenile told Shortey he needed money for spring break.

Shortey replied he didn't have any things he needed help with at the moment, then asked "would you be interested in 'sexual' stuff?" The juvenile responded yes and the two continued discussing how and where they'd meet.
