The board is many things but one thing it is not is RUDDERLESS. It is DELIBERATE.
That container ship DID NOT lose it's steering. It approached the bridge under ideal water/current conditions from a long way. It steered OUTSIDE the shipping channel, the center of which is directly between the two bridge support pylons. It was a direct attack to take out one of the pylons which would then take down the other as well.
Yeah. They could bring in a couple barge mounted 500+ ton cranes which would clear out the shipping channel in one or two days max.
Anchor each barge crane at the edge of the shipping channel. They have very high booms each of which could easily reach the center of the channel. Each crane with a clam bucket would pick up the pieces, rotate (swing) the crane 180 degrees and drop the pieces outside the channel for disposal.
