The crew of the stranded container ship DALI have reported they are OK and awaiting rescue after the collision that caused a portion of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore to collapse, according to a seafarers' chaplain who took them shopping on Sunday.
Andrew Middleton said he took the ship's captain and a crewman shopping at a nearby Walmart to buy personal items and snacks before their departure.
On Monday, while the ship was docked, Middleton said, he drove its captain and a crew member to shop at a Walmart. In the car, Middleton said, the captain told him about the vessel’s upcoming journey to Sri Lanka — explaining that it would take about a month, because the ship would be traveling around the southern tip of Africa to avoid the Suez Canal and Red Sea, where Yemen’s Houthi rebels have been attacking ships.
Before he left them Monday afternoon, Middleton prayed with the captain and crew member.
“God bless these gentlemen,” he prayed. “Have a safe voyage.”
The registered owner of the ship is Singapore-based Grace Ocean Pte Ltd., and it is managed by Synergy Marine Group. Neither company immediately responded to a request for comment from The Washington Post. An official from Grace Ocean told the global shipping news website TradeWinds that the company is “working with the ship’s technical manager Synergy Marine to determine what happened.”

Sean John Combs, aka Puff Daddy, P. Diddy or just plain Diddy, has bought a newly built mansion in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles for $40 million.
Completed this year, the European-style villa has about 17,000 square feet of living space in a two-story main house with a 35-seat theater, a gym and a wine room. There’s another 3,000 square feet in another structure.

The 44-year-old has also worked as a television producer and an actor.
The Grammy winner’s new neighbors include the Playboy Mansion and Formula One heiress Petra Eccelstone Stunt.
The off-market purchase took place outside the Multiple Listing Service.
Real estate agents not involved in the deal or authorized to comment on it identified Drew Fenton of Hilton & Hyland/Christie’s International Real Estate as having represented the seller and Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency as Comb’s agent.
