im keeping an eye on the nickel-hydrogen 'sealed' battery. it is not consumed and refilled with hydrogen, that is just the chemistry system. they are reported to be exceptionally safe, reliable, long life, and fast recharge. Manufacturing At Scale has been the reported hold up.
testing shows the cell being shot through with projectiles with just a short flame and then inert. i know i know, there are so many different and competing ideas it is hard to tell which are promising and 'safe'. but i like this one, im No Body.
