A binder containing highly classified information related to Russian election interference went missing at the end of Donald Trump’s presidency, raising alarms among intelligence officials that some of the most closely guarded national security secrets from the US and its allies could be exposed, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
Its disappearance, which has not been previously reported, was so concerning that intelligence officials briefed Senate Intelligence Committee leaders last year about the missing materials and the government’s efforts to retrieve them, the sources said.
In the two-plus years since Trump left office, the missing intelligence does not appear to have been found.

MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. Russia called up 130,000 conscripts in its army draft last fall, Deputy Head of the Russian General Staff’s Main Organizational and Mobilization Department Vladimir Tsimlyansky said on Friday.
"The objective set by a Russian presidential decree was accomplished on time and in full. A total of 130,000 conscripts were called up for military service in the Armed Forces, other troops and military formations. As before,the conscription campaign paid special attention to staffing scientific and scientific-production units. In interaction with central military command authorities, about 500 personnel were selected and sent for staffing these units," he added.
The fall draft was organized especially effectively in the Republics of Buryatia and North Ossetia-Alania, the Krasnoyarsk, Stavropol, Volgograd, Voronezh, Moscow, Rostov, Sakhalin, Samara and Chelyabinsk Regions and the city of Moscow, Tsimlyansky said.
"All the citizens sent for military service were provided with the established type of allowances at gathering places. About 200 civil aviation flights, 14 flights by army aircraft and 10 military trains were engaged to send conscripts to military units. All the conscripts were provided with food rations along the entire route and enjoyed three-time meals in railway dining cars, if the travel took more than three days. This practice has long been established in the Russian Armed Forces and proven its efficiency," he said.
Civil and military aviation flights, military and passenger trains transported over 120,000 conscripts in the fall army draft, he said.

Terror mastermind told attack suspects to flee to Kiev – investigators
Last week’s Crocus City Hall attack was organized anonymously via social media, according to officials
The chief suspects in last week's terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall outside Moscow have testified that their orders came from a mystery man who told them to flee to Ukraine afterwards, the Russian Investigative Committee announced on Friday.
Security services detained the four suspected perpetrators near the Ukrainian border last Saturday. The attack claimed 144 lives and left over 200 people hospitalized.
In their initial testimonies and during their subsequent interrogations, the suspects said the attacks were prepared in coordination with “a man who introduced himself to them under a pseudonym,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement.He communicated with them by voice messages sent over Telegram, it added.
“On the instructions of the coordinator, after committing the crime, the terrorists drove in a car towards theRussian-Ukrainian border to subsequently cross it and arrive in Kiev to receive the promised reward,” the law enforcement agency said.
The Investigative Committee has said it is continuing to “verify the involvement of representatives of Ukrainian special services in organizing and financing the terrorist attack.”
Russian special forces intercepted the four suspected perpetrators last Saturday, en route to the Ukrainian border. They were identified as nationals of Tajikistan and initially described by officials as “radical Islamists.”
The terrorist group Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K) has claimed responsibility for the massacre. The US and EU have insisted that ISIS-K was the sole culprit and that Ukraine was in no way involved.
Moscow, however, remains skeptical. President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and the heads of theFSB and the Investigative Committee have all claimed that multiple clues point to Kiev’s involvement. Lavrov described the West’s insistence on Ukraine’s innocence as suspicious in itself.
On Thursday, the Investigative Committee revealed that the four suspects hadreceived “significant sums of money” from Ukraine, in the form of cryptocurrency. The funds were then used to prepare the attack on Crocus City Hall, the agency said.
