Terror mastermind told attack suspects to flee to Kiev – investigators
Last week’s Crocus City Hall attack was organized anonymously via social media, according to officials
The chief suspects in last week's terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall outside Moscow have testified that their orders came from a mystery man who told them to flee to Ukraine afterwards, the Russian Investigative Committee announced on Friday.
Security services detained the four suspected perpetrators near the Ukrainian border last Saturday. The attack claimed 144 lives and left over 200 people hospitalized.
In their initial testimonies and during their subsequent interrogations, the suspects said the attacks were prepared in coordination with “a man who introduced himself to them under a pseudonym,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement.He communicated with them by voice messages sent over Telegram, it added.
“On the instructions of the coordinator, after committing the crime, the terrorists drove in a car towards theRussian-Ukrainian border to subsequently cross it and arrive in Kiev to receive the promised reward,” the law enforcement agency said.
The Investigative Committee has said it is continuing to “verify the involvement of representatives of Ukrainian special services in organizing and financing the terrorist attack.”
Russian special forces intercepted the four suspected perpetrators last Saturday, en route to the Ukrainian border. They were identified as nationals of Tajikistan and initially described by officials as “radical Islamists.”
The terrorist group Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K) has claimed responsibility for the massacre. The US and EU have insisted that ISIS-K was the sole culprit and that Ukraine was in no way involved.
Moscow, however, remains skeptical. President Vladimir Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and the heads of theFSB and the Investigative Committee have all claimed that multiple clues point to Kiev’s involvement. Lavrov described the West’s insistence on Ukraine’s innocence as suspicious in itself.
On Thursday, the Investigative Committee revealed that the four suspects hadreceived “significant sums of money” from Ukraine, in the form of cryptocurrency. The funds were then used to prepare the attack on Crocus City Hall, the agency said.
(Doesn’t it seem sort of odd if Kiev was coordinating this, wouldn’t they do it from another country, so the person couldn’t have tracked? I think it was Kash on Bannon’s show that said, Kiev expected and wanted them to be killed by sending them to Ukraine border, or they themselves would have killed them in the forest there. That would make sense so the guys couldn’t be found.)

Share of ‘patriotic’ Russians reaches all-time high – poll
Unconditional patriotism has surged to 62% since last year
Some 94% of Russians describe themselves as patriots, more than at any point since surveys first began, the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTSIOM) said on Friday.
The increase was driven mainly by a ten percentage point surge in “unconditional”patriotism since last year, which now stands at 62%, VTSIOM revealed. Back in 2005, when the survey first started, it was just 47%.
“Today, the feeling of patriotism is shared approximately equally by men and women (93% and 95%, respectively), the young and the old (87% in the 18-24 category and 94% among those 60+), and residents of cities and the countryside (94% and 95% respectively),”said the pollster.
The recent surge in unconditional patriotism is higher than the eight-point increase in 2022, after the military operation in Ukraine began.
The percentage of Russians who described themselves as “not very” patriotic was the highest in March 2014, prior to the reunification with Crimea. It stood at 13% at the time but has shrunk to just 2% today. Only 1% of Russians have openly declared they don’t feel patriotic at all.
VTSIOM’s poll was based on phone interviews with a representative sample of 1,600 adult Russians, carried out at the beginning of March.
