God put the Sun in the sky. The people God created keep time with the sun. Solstice and equinox are specified times like noon and midnight. Pagans and non pagans use the clock God made. Christians decided to celebrate the birth of the Son of God at the time of year that was celebrated as the (re)birth of the sun. The answer is God came first.
