Owner of Russian gay bar arrested for ‘propaganda’

The arrest is the third linked to LGBT activities at a nightclub in the city of Orenburg

A Russian court has ordered the owner of the Pose gay club in the city of Orenburg to be placed in custody for allegedly organizing “extremist” activities associated with spreading LGBT propaganda.

The suspect will remain in custody until May 18 while the investigation is ongoing, according to a statement by the Orenburg Central District Court on Sunday.

The court has not released the name of the suspect, but some media have identified him as Vyacheslav Khasanov, reportedly detained at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow on March 28.

According to the investigation, the club owner was conspiring with a group of individuals supporting activities of the banned LGBT movement. He is said to have carried out organizational functions such as renting premises and converting them into a bar, appointing managers, selecting artists, approving performances and events, and subsequently posting photo and video materials promoting non-traditional relations on the club’s Telegram channel, thereby “providing access to this information to an indefinite number of persons.”

Earlier this month the club’s art director Aleksander Klimov, and business executive Diana Kamilyanova, were arrested on similar charges. If found guilty, they could face up to ten years in prison.

LGBT propaganda has been outlawed in Russia since 2022, and in November last year the Supreme Court ruled that the activities of the “international LGBT social movement” are to be recognized as “extremist.” Last week, Russia’s Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring) included the “movement and its structural units” to the list of persons and organizations deemed to be involved in extremist activities or terrorism.

The Pose club case is the first criminal investigation in Russia associated with the Supreme Court’s ruling. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that anti-LGBT legislation should not affect people's personal lives, provided they “don’t flaunt it” in public and do not involve children.

On Sunday, a shooting at a coffee shop around 3 pm in the German town district of Nashville left one person dead and others injured.

According to the Daily Mail, the incident happened at the Roasted Brunch restaurant on Garfield Street when a fight broke out before gunshots rang out, with the suspect fleeing on foot.

One user posted on X, "I tried to take my baby out to eat at Roasted and a man got killed in front of us!" They added, "What the F*** Nashville!"

The incident comes one day after the anniversary of the Nashville private school shooting that resulted in the death of three students and three teachers.

MSNBC's Nicole Wallace throws script in outburst over Trump speaking out against New York judge in 'falsified' docs case

During a segment on MSNBC's Deadline: White House, host Nicole Wallace displayed frustration and threw her script off camera while discussing former President Donald Trump's comments regarding a New York state justice's daughter.

Wallace, joined by former federal Judge Michael Luttig, MSNBC's John Heilemann, Lisa Rubin, and Glenn Kirschner, expressed her resentment about the former President's recent comments, stating, "So, you know, it's time to do something different. Like, we're not going to have this conversation again! Wallace’s outburst stemmed from Trump’s recent rhetoric regarding New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan's 34-year-old daughter. Merchan is overseeing Trump's New York trial concerning allegations of falsifying documents related to payments for adult film star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election. His daughter, Loren has been vocal about her dislike for the former president and was revealed to have an X account with an image of Trump behind bars as her profile picture. She later changed the picture.

Recently, Justice Merchan imposed a gag order on Trump, preventing him from discussing witnesses, lawyers, court staff, or their families in relation to the case. However, the gag order did not explicitly mention Merchan or his daughter, prompting Trump to speak out on Truth Social.

“Judge Juan Merchan is totally compromised, and should be removed from this TRUMP Non-Case immediately,” the former President posted on Truth Social on Thursday.

Mississippi Secretary of State Michael Watson and the Securities Division of the Secretary of State's Office have issued a "Cease and Desist Order" against asset manager BlackRock, alleging deceptive practices regarding the company's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments.

The order accuses BlackRock of repeatedly misleading Mississippi investors regarding its ESG practices,particularly concerning its non-ESG funds, such as exchange-traded funds (ETFs),which do not purport to follow a sustainable investment strategy.

According to Watson, BlackRock's representation that its non-ESG funds do not incorporate ESG considerations misleads investors by contradicting the company's broader ESG commitments.

“BlackRock made untrue statements that certain of its funds do not incorporate ESG considerations. As detailed extensively in this order, BlackRockstated on multiple occasionseither expressly through publications or by action that the companydoes in fact incorporate ESG considerations into its non-ESG funds,” the order from Mississippi states.

“BlackRock madeexpress and implied material misrepresentations and omissionsabout its investment strategies related to ESG,” the order continues. “As detailed extensively in this order, BlackRock has overstated the extent to which its ESG aims bear on companies’ financial performance and positioning. Thesestatements lead investors to believethat BlackRock’sESG provides a financial benefit to its ESG funds.”

Furthermore, the order points out BlackRock's participation in the Climate Action 100+ Alliance, a commitment to the Paris Agreement and carbon emissions reduction. Watson argues that BlackRock's defense thatnon-ESG funds do not consider climate change concerns contradictsits involvement in this initiative.

Notably, BlackRock recently withdrew from the Climate Action 100+ Alliance. The company’s Chairman and CEO, Larry Fink, has also expressed a reluctance to use the term “ESG” in the future due to its connotation.

The Cease and Desist Order points out thateachmisrepresentationBlackRockhas performed is a violation of Mississippi's Securities Act. As thecompanyhas been uncovered to haveconducted 'thousands of potential violations," BlackRock is facingtens of millions of dollars worth of fines.

"Investment companies will not push their political agenda on Mississippians, especially through fraudulent and deceptive means,” said Secretary Watson in a press release.

The Cease and Desist Order comes at a time of growing scrutiny over the accuracy and transparency of ESG practices within the financial industry.

San Francisco authorities announced on Friday that the city's police department successfully conducted anoperation resulting in 54 arrests, including the apprehension of numerous wanted fugitives. The operation, whichspanned multiple agencies, targeted the Tenderloin neighborhood, known for its rampant drug use and homelessness issues.

According to CBS News, earlier in the week, law enforcement seized 600 grams of narcotics as part of the ongoing efforts to combat illegal activity in the area.Police Chief Bill Scott emphasized a zero-tolerancestance towards unlawful behavior in and around the neighborhood,asserting that arrests will continue indefinitely.

“Illegal activity will not be tolerated in and around the Tenderloin. We will be out in force making arrests for as long as it takes,” Chief Scott said. “I want to thank our hard-working officers and our city partners for their commitment to this effort.”(what about all the other sections of San Fran?)

The operation, carried out throughout Wednesday, was coordinated by the city's Drug Market Agency Coordination Center. Among the 54 arrests, 34 individuals had outstanding warrants, while eight suspects were detained for possession of illegal narcotics with intent to distribute, according to the San Francisco Police Department. Additional arrests were made for offenses related topossession of controlled substances and stolen property.

“The SFPD would like to thank the assistance of the San Francisco Sheriff's Office, who were instrumental in this operation. Our efforts in taking wanted suspects off our streets and to holdindividuals accountable for selling illegal narcotics and creating the drug crisison our streets will make streets safer and save lives,” the police department said in a statement. Arizona high school football star allegedly beat teen to death at party, bragged about 'closed casket funeral'

Talan Renner, 17, pleaded not guilty to the killing ofPreston Lord, 16.

Talan Renner, 17, who has been accused of beating a teen to death with the help of six others at a Halloween party last year, allegedly bragged that the victim's funeral was a closed casket service, according to police documents.

Renner, an Arizona star high school football player who was held on a $1 million bond and pleaded not guilty to the killing of Preston Lord, 16, was reportedly hidden away by his family in their $850,000 cabin in Show Low following the murder, unearthed police documents obtained by AZ Family show.

According to the 1,100-page investigation,his father Travis Renner's ex-girlfriend made the statements to police, stating that she had broken up with Travis Renner before the heinous murder but was still connected to the family and had access to his credit card information. She claimed she had messaged Renner, who she described as an "angry kid," on Snapchat while he was allegedly residing in the cabin approximately three hours away from his house. Talan Renner reportedly sent a photo of himself "walking the family dog, Gucci."

Travis' ex-girlfriend alleged to police that the accused teen's jaw was swollen in the photograph. She then told authorities that theRenner family attorney had recommended that Renner's "hands heal" before returning to Gilbert,the location of his primary residence.

She also allegedly told police that Renner "holds in a lot of aggression," and "snaps" when he gets angry. According to the outlet,she decided to file the report after witnessing Renner allegedly bragging about getting away with Lord's murderand how the 16-year-old was given a "closed casket" funeral due to how badly he was beaten.

In addition, Ashley Reynolds, a former Relentless Media Agency employee of Travis Renner, said to the Arizona Republiclast month thatRenner's father and CEO, Adam Kifer, had talked about relocating his son into the cabin and assigning the blame to another teenagerwho had been involved in the fatal attack.

The two men allegedly sought the former executive assistant at Relentless for assistance with the "crisis" and routinely gave her case updates.

Reynolds claimed thatshe was fired from the company after refusing to help with the case, per the outlet.

Renner and six other accused bullies, who called themselves the "Gilbert Goons," were detained on October 28 in connection with Lord's death during a Halloween celebration in Queen Creek, which is located approximately 40 minutes east of Phoenix.

According to a witness,Lord was attacked by up to fifteen peoplewho had been wearing ski masks at the time. Lord died from severe injuries sustained during the beating at a hospital on October 30.

On Saturday, CNN investigative reporter Andy Kaczynski claimed "Transgender Day of Visibility" has always been on the same date every year and those upset about President Biden declaring it a holiday while it falls on Easter thi year are simply looking for something to be outraged about.

Royal Oak - What started Wednesday morning with a set oftweets from President Donald Trump announcing that transgender people would no longer be welcome in the U.S. military, led to a rally of hundreds in support of transgender troops in downtown Royal Oak on Sunday.

Outside the city's public library, members of the transgender community, their allies and several local politicians showed their support for affected troops, making it clear any transgender ban in the military wouldn't proceed without a fight.

Attendees carried signs and wore shirts with messages such as "You can pee next to me," "Human rights are for all humans," and "Imagine being told you're not good enough by a weak draft dodger with no courage."

The noontime rally was organized by TG Detroit. The organization, founded by Samantha Rogers, holds quarterly nights on the town, during which groups of trans people visit bars and restaurants and take part in nightlife while also enjoying strength in numbers.

"For most of us, the good old days sucked, didn't they?" Rogers said. "Filled with fear and pain. Well, I am no longer going to live in fear. We are behind you. We have your backs."

Trump's tweets raised fears in the transgender community that a group of people historically easy to ostracize are again being made to feel unwelcome.While military leaders have said that only an official order would change thingsfor transgender troops, the same man who sent the tweets could send the official order. Royal Oak Mayor Michael Fournier said the rally took place in a context of "discontent, confusion and sadness that transgender troops have not been treated equally at the highest levels of government."

Several speakers referenced then-President Barack Obama's decision to repeal the Bill Clinton-era "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy in July 2011. They expressed fears that the six years since the policy was revoked have been a departure from the norm. They also noted, in the past, the military has not been tolerant of those who see their gender differently from their birth certificate.

"Nobody wants to be transgender," Rogers told The News before the rally. "Nobody wakes up and hopes to be different."

TG Detroit hopes to smooth out those differences by first drawing attention, by traveling to venues in a crowd - "we always catch people's eye," Rogers said - and then by extending kindness to people who approach or show interest.

Nicole Burtonelli, 56, embraced the transgender community within the last three years, and joined TG Detroit.

Burtonelli didn't used to go out at all. Now, when she goes out, she's gotten in the habit of saying - to waitstaff, to kind strangers, to whomever - "Thank you for being kind to me."

She hopes, through TG Detroit, to help make Detroit "the most trans-friendly city in America." Her message: "There's no reason to hate us."

A recurring theme in the rally was, to quote Ferndale Mayor Dave Coulter quoting Michelle Obama, "when they go low, we go high," which is to say that ralliers shouldn't return scorn with scorn, but respond to it with love, and action.

No one heckled any of the speakers on Sunday. Had that happened, said TG Detroit member Chelsea Charles Alvarado, 40, the plan was for everybody to turn their backs on the heckler, returning scorn with indifference.

The Human Rights Campaign reports more than 15 trans people have been violently killed in 2017, and 22 were killed in 2016.

Should Trump's tweets become policy, Jay Kaplan, attorney for the ACLU of Michigan's LGBT Project, said litigation would result.

"We have a little thing in the U.S. Constitution called the equal protection clause," Kaplan said. "Rest assured, should that tweet become policy, the ACLU and other organizations stand ready, willing and able to take it to court and to challenge it.
