It's not that hard to get in, Anon. Depending on your specialty. After my contract ran out with BioWare, I needed a job and had friends in the industry, so I started off as what's called a "cookie cutter" (tm). I was hired to do all the flat colors for a colorist, who would come along and add their own touches to my flats. Where they were getting paid 300-500$ a page, I was making 25-50$ and I needed to get 3-5 pages done a day, where they had typically around 14 days to complete a full 22 page book. This was how Lee, Kane, Kirby and all the big names during the Silver and Golden age, ran their studios. You "learned" from your betters, or so they claimed. The reality was, you did most of the heavy lifting for the studios and hoped that one day, you'd get your "shot." As I said, it was only 2 years, but I was already working my way back into game industry, after seeing the (((nepotism))) in the comic industry. Now, I homeschool my kids and they're all wanting to start their own game dev studio, thanks to my eldest. Why not? Indie is the way to go. My eldest has already done 3 games on his own in UE and is working on his first shooter project.
If you want to get into the industry, do it. Kek. I still have my first rejection letter from Marvel in a frame in my studio.Neverlet them break you.
