I agree. It makes more sense than it should.
I should continue watching it but I needed to stop and process. I had a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Evans so easily called the aliens 'my lord' while speaking to them over an old fashioned microphone.
I do believe that an advanced race exists, whether aliens or a civilization of past Earth that survived.
What better way to get a 'leader' to work with you than to offer magical technology, either in the past or even more recently.
As far as religion, I think they were the first groups to be infiltrated because they could mystify the masses with their new found magic.
A classic example of tech appearing out of nowhere is the Terra Cotta Army. The weapons were real and mass produced in an assembly line fashion. That kind of tech was unknow up to that point. Not only the tech but the manufacturing of it. Having an advanced crossbow turned the tide for the Emperor.
History is nothing that we have been taught. Until people are willing to let go of preconceived ideas taught by the victors, they will learn nothing of their past.
