The Great American Eclipse of 2017. And the lessons learned from that one. Anon did not go to a major population center to get in the center of the path of totality either. Anon did the opposite. Went to BFE location to view longest totality possible. Getting in a few hours before was no big deal. But getting out was brutal. Worst traffic jam of entire life. Better have gas, food, and plenty of time to spare. And that doesn't even address the problem of when nature calls and where to find facilities. Tired? Good luck finding a room. Probably will have to sleep in your vehicle. Need gas? Be prepared to wait in line for hours. That's if you make to a gas station before running out while moving at an average speed no faster than walking.
