🚨NEW: Former adviser to the #Ethereum network, @StevenNerayoff

and his legal team have filed a Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) lawsuit suing the U.S. government for $9.6 billion in personal damages as a result of false charges brought against Nerayoff and his mistreatment by federal agents between 2019 and 2023.

According to the SF-95 filing below, Nerayoff is suing the federal government on the basis that some of its agents were aware of the baseless nature of the charges they brought against him and also engaged in harassment and intimidation tactics, including fabrication of evidence, in order to prosecute him for extortion.

While the federal indictment against Nerayoff has been dismissed with prejudice, his legal team believes the damages caused to Nerayoff’s reputation and businesses are significant enough to bring the claim.

While winning lawsuits against the federal government is notoriously difficult, Nerayoff’s lawyer, former Manhattan ADA Michael Scotto, tells me he believes the case against the government is strong.

has also learned that prominent lawyer Alan Dershowitz is a consultant on the case. Dershowitz tells me Nerayoff’s case is “unusual”.

“I am strongly opposed to prosecutors targeting individuals,” he said. “That’s why I agreed to serve as a constitutional consultant to Mr. Nerayoff.”
