NEW: Per CBP source, another 147 Chinese nationals were apprehended by Border Patrol in San Diego sector yesterday after crossing illegally. San Diego sector was #1 at the border with just over 1,000 apprehensions yesterday, more than 800 of which were single adults.
CBP data shows there have now been more than 46,000 Chinese nationals apprehended by Border Patrol since the start of fiscal year 2023.
Our CBP & ICE contacts tell us a large majority of the Chinese are released into the US and are not deported or removed, as China has generally been uncooperative with accepting deportation flights.
Mayorkas said today there has been one removal flight to China recently, and conversations with the Chinese government are ongoing in an effort to try to get them to accept more.
