Mexican TV outlet accidentally airs man’s testicles during solar eclipse coverage

Updated April 9, 2024, 4:08 p.m. ET

A Mexican news outlet is garnering ridicule online because it accidentally aired a man’s testicles when presenting viewer-submitted footage of Monday’s solar eclipse.

RCG Media’s 24/7 news program was covering the eclipse when its three anchors presented clips submitted by fans experiencing the celestial phenomenon — only to fall prey to a well-known prank in Latin America, the local La Vanguardia newspaper reported.

As the male host was listing the cities from where the eclipse could be enjoyed, the clips being presented on the left side of the screen cut to a man blocking out the sun with his testicles.

One of the two female anchors could be heard gasping in shock while her male colleague carried on, ignoring the obscene image.

The clip was quickly taken off the screen, with the male anchor explaining that the clips were submitted by viewers as he admitted that the fervor to include fans’ experiences can lead to embarrassing situations for broadcasters.

It is not uncommon for people to share clips of a so-called “testicular eclipse” online during a solar event, with such images previously shared during the 2019 eclipse in Chile.

Even Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee has gotten in on the risque gag, posting a similar video on his Instagram page before taking it down, the Mirror said.

But Monday’s incident in Mexico appears to be the first time the image made its way onto television, with many mocking the news outlet for failing to check the video before airing it.

One X user with the handle Rhevolver claimed responsibility for submitting the clip to RCG as he reveled in the successful prank.

“Greetings to all my people from Saltillo who had to watch my eggs on television because those from @rcg_media neglected to review the video of the eclipse carefully,” Rhevolver wrote.

It remains unclear if the footage submitted was of Rhevolver himself or if it was recycled from previous “testicular eclipse” posts.

RCG media did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment Tuesday.

Cave discoveries on Mars could unveil secrets of alien life

10 April 2024

Our scientists have identified dozens of potential cave entrances on the surface of Mars using cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) techniques.

This remarkable result, detailed in the journal Icarus, has implications for both the search for extraterrestrial life and future human exploration missions.

Revolutionising planetary exploration

Martian caves are regarded as prime targets in the quest to uncover evidence of past or present life on the planet.

These subterranean environments could act as time capsules, preserving biosignatures and other traces of life that may have once existed on the now-inhospitable surface.

In addition to their astrobiological significance, Martian caves also represent potential safe havens for future human explorers.

These natural formations could provide much-needed shelter from the harsh Martian environment, including intense radiation, extreme temperature fluctuations, and destructive dust storms.

AI-powered discovery

The team used machine learning techniques to scour images of the Martian surface to identify potential cave entrances.

By developing a convolutional neural network called ‘CaveFinder’, the researchers were able to scour vast datasets of Martian surface imagery, identifying 61 new potential cave entrances.

As humanity pushes deeper into the final frontier, innovations incorporating similar methodologies will be vital in uncovering the secrets of alien worlds.

Nike just teased its coolest, weirdest logo yet

04-09-2024

Just as many people were staring at the sky, waiting for the totality of a rare solar eclipse, Nike took the opportunity to drop a fresh new logo. But not just any logo: an alien carved into a south Texas farm field.

Sources familiar with the work say it’s a real farm field, not just Photoshop of other visual effects. Either way, it’s an incredibly clever logo for San Antonio Spurs rookie superstar Victor Wembanyama. The brand’s caption was a cryptic, “The total eclipse has just begun.”

So how do we know this is a new Wemby logo? The south Texas location is one major hint. Another is that “Alien” is a nickname for the 20-year-old phenom, bestowed on him by none other than LeBron James back in February 2023.

In a Sports Illustrated story on Wemby, James said he didn’t think the term “unicorn” was unique enough. ”We’re labeling like this unicorn thing—everybody’s been a unicorn over the last few years,” James said. “But he’s more like an alien—no one has seen anyone as tall as he is but as fluid and as graceful as he is on the floor.”

The sneaker rumor mill has been spinning for a while about a potential May drop of Wemby’s first signature “Alien” shoe from the swoosh. He wore a version of them earlier this year at the NBA All-Star game.

Nike originally signed Wemby to a shoe and apparel deal while he was playing in France, before San Antonio drafted him as the no. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. His deal is rumored to be in the $100 million range, and if his own shoe does drop as expected, he would be the eighth pro basketball signature model for Nike. So far, Nike has signature shoes for NBA stars LeBron, Ja Morant, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Paul George, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker, as well as WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu.

Until we know for sure that the Wemby shoe is coming, fans will have to tap into their inner Fox Mulder and believe.

Astronomers Confirm Tidally Locked Alien World, Shedding Light On Exoplanet Mysteries

Updated: April 09, 2024 6:54 pm IST

Astronomers have finally confirmed the existence of a strange alien world that is tidally locked to its star. This means one side of the planet is always in permanent sunshine, while the other side is in perpetual darkness. This is the first time scientists have been able to confirm this phenomenon on an exoplanet, or a planet outside our solar system.

The Astronomers team's research, which has been published in The Astrophysical Journal, mentions that the planet, called LHS 3844b, or Kua'kua, is too close to its star to support life as we know it. However, this discovery is important because it confirms that tidally locked exoplanets are possible and may even be common in our galaxy.

Tidal locking is a phenomenon that we can see in our own solar system with the Moon. The Moon is always showing the same side to Earth because its rotation has been slowed down by Earth's gravity.

Exoplanets that are close to their stars are more likely to be tidally locked because they experience a stronger gravitational pull. Scientists were able to determine that Kua'kua is tidally locked by studying the planet's temperature.

The researchers developed a model of an exoplanet without an atmosphere and compared it to observations of Kua'kua made with the Spitzer Space Telescope. If the planet was not tidally locked, it would be heated up by the constant pull of the star. However, the researchers found that Kua'kua is too cool for this to be happening.

This suggests that Kua'kua is tidally locked and always shows the same side to its star. More powerful telescopes are needed to confirm this finding, but this is the best evidence yet that some exoplanets are locked to their stars.
