US Could Launch Joint Retaliatory Strikes With Israel If It Is Attacked By Iran: Official

Update(1550ET): Upping the ante, a US official has told Al Jazeera that the Pentagon could intervene militarily if there is an Iranian attack launched against Israel.

According to a translation from Al Jazeera Arabic, the US source said, "We do not rule out launching joint retaliatory strikes with Israel if it is attacked by Iran or its agents."

There was no further elaboration, or an indicator whether a US joint response with Israel would include offensive strikes against Iran, or if this would just be defensive, for example - anti air measures. However, Axios has the following details which appears to confirm the Al Jazeera reporting:

The senior U.S. military commander in charge of the Middle East is expected to go to Israel Thursday to coordinate around a possible attack on Israel by Iran and its proxies, two Israeli officials said.

…The commander of the U.S. military central command (CENTCOM) Gen. Erik Kurilla is expected to meet senior Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) officials and Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant.

Yesterday, Israeli officials threatened that Iranian nuclear sites could be targeted, in one of the biggest strike threats to date. The region is on edge awaiting an 'imminent' response by Iran following the April 1st deadly attack on Iran's embassy in Damascus. US intelligence has said it believes a revenge attack from Tehran is coming soon.

Whoopi Goldberg: Republicans Want to ‘Bring Slavery Back’

Whoopi Goldberg told her co-hosts Wednesday on ABC’s “The View” that some Republicans would like to “bring slavery back” during the panel discussion of the Arizona Supreme Court’s ruling reinstating an 1864 abortion ban.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said, “I believe a lot of elected Republicans are completely out of step with the sentiment of the country because we’ve seen in Kansas, a very red state, Ohio, and Kentucky that Republicans turned out to protect access to abortion so this is a big win for Democrats I believe in the election.”

Goldberg said, “Take a look at the things that they’re rolling back. Remember I said ages ago, you know, in their minds they want to bring slavery back. They’re okay with it because you see things change — now one of the good things about the Supreme Court is you can fight to make sure you make stuff better. You don’t generally fight to make stuff worse.”

She added, “To me, if you’re OK rolling that back, when things were not even a state, when we had no say. So how’s that going to roll? How’s that going to roll? What’s the next thing? Because you know with all of this comes birth control, with all of this comes everything that you need as a woman to have had put in place to make sure that we are doing better than we were before.”

Sean 'Diddy' Combs Loses 18 Brand Partnerships Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

Amidst a whirlwind of controversy swirling around Sean “Diddy” Combs, the mogul behind the Empower Global project, at least 18 brands have severed ties with his e-commerce platform. These harrowing allegations have expedited our decision, and we ended our partnership with Empower Global earlier this month.”

In a bid to salvage his reputation, Mr. Combs took to Instagram on Dec. 6 to assert his innocence and vow to defend his name against what he perceived as baseless attacks. Denying accusations of sexual assault, trafficking, and abuse leveled against him by Cassie Ventura, Mr. Combs declared his unwavering resolve to combat what he views as a concerted effort to besmirch his character and legacy.

“For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy. Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth.”

Meantime, the company is facing a period of uncertainty as it addresses these challenges. The future of Empower Global remains unclear.

In November, Mr. Combs temporarily stepped down as a co-chair of Revolt, a music-oriented digital cable television network that he co-founded. The company posted a statement on X reading, “While Mr. Combs previously has previously had no operational or day-to-day role in the business, this decision helps to ensure that Revolt remains steadfastly focused on our mission to create meaningful content for the culture.”

Argentina’s Former President Alberto Fernández Has His Assets Frozen, His Tax and Banking Secrecy Lifted – Failed Socialist Leader Is Accused of Corruption

ABC International reported:

“Judge Julián Ercolini of the national Federal Criminal and Correctional Court, has ordered the general [freezing] of Fernández’s assets and has lifted the tax and banking secrecy on his accounts in the case that investigates whether the president favored, for the contracting of State insurance, the husband of his private secretary.

Ercolini’s measure also covers another 32 people, [among] former officials, companies and cooperatives that are being investigated, and who will now not be able to sell or dispose of their assets.”

The decision affects one Héctor Martínez Sosa and his wife María Cantero, who was Fernández’s secretary.

For Judge Ercolini, this link raises credible suspicions that the former president played an important role in the intermediation between state entities and Nación Seguros.

“Fernández is being investigated for alleged irregularities regarding a decree that he signed in December 2021, by which he ordered that all public organizations must contract insurance with Nación Seguros , from the state-owned Banco Nación, in which friends of the ex-president as intermediaries collecting million-dollar commissions.

Despite not needing managers to contract these insurances, the public organizations used the husband of their secretary and friend, Martínez Sosa, as an intermediary, who also appears as a creditor of the former president in their sworn statements.”

If convicted, Fernández will join in infamy his Vice President (also former first lady and later President) Cristina Kirchner, another leading Peronist politician who was indicted and convicted for obstructing the investigation into the 1994 Hezbollah Bombing of the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA), a Jewish Community Centre – a conviction later overturned during Fernández’ term.
