🇳🇪 Niger's military terminated an agreement with the U.S. that allowed U.S. troops to be stationed in the African country. Now, 🇷🇺 Russian specialists arrived in Niger to train local counter-terrorism forces:

"At the moment, the Afrika Korps will establish relationships here, as well as the joint formation and training of the Niger army. We brought with us the educational and material base for the training of various specialists. We have a lot of experience in the fight against terrorism. And here we are to share this experience with our friends."

Russia will also assist with installation of an air defense system. "These Russian instructors will provide quality training to our military personnel to effectively use this system," RTN reported.

In July last year, a group of military personnel from Niger's Presidential Guard mutinied and announced the president's ouster Mohamed Bazouma. To govern the country, the National Council for the Defense of the Fatherland was formed, headed by the commander of the guard, Abdurahman Tchiani. On August 10, Tchiani signed a decree on the formation of a transitional government."
