Seems like glitch/anomoly.

To me the most likely explanation for the conditions wold be a large meteor strike.

But even with a very low incline approach the waves would still propagate Omnidirectional.

The other problem would be the speed of wave propagation, impact waves travel ~600mph from memory.

Perhaps a rolling Solar Flare induced focused electrical storm causing instruments to misreport data?
