Russian Church slams plan to brand it ‘terrorist’

Estonia wants domestic religious leaders to sever ties with the Moscow Patriarchate over the Ukraine conflict

Estonia’s plans to label the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) as a “terrorist” organization are reminiscent of a medieval witch hunt, church spokesman Vladimir Legoyda has said.

Earlier this week, Estonian Interior Minister Lauri Laanemets revealed that he will ask the Riigikogu (Estonian parliament) to order the severing of ties between the Estonian Orthodox Church (EOC) and the ROC, legally known as the Moscow Patriarchate, by declaring the latter a terrorist group.

The minister claimed that the Moscow Patriarchate is subordinate to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who, according to Laanemets, “fundamentally leads terrorist activities worldwide.”

In a Telegram post on Friday, Legoyda branded the initiative “a theater of the absurd.”

“[Laanemets’] statement takes Estonia back to the dark ages of religious wars, St. Bartholomew’s Night and witch hunts. It is obvious to any sane person that the Moscow Patriarchate is not engaged in terrorist activities,” the spokesman stated. “The fight against the Russian Church and Russian culture has become some kind of mental drug that they aretrying to feed to the Estonian voter so that he forgets about real problems.”

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also commented on Laanemets’ proposal, describing it as bearing “all the signs of a mental illness.”

“There’s a problem with the logic: who then, in [Laanemets’] opinion, will the Pope [Francis] communicate with – terrorists?” she asked.

Tallinn has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine in the conflict with Moscow, and declared Russia a terrorist state in October 2022 over its actions. The Baltic nation has been working on ways to separate its church from the ROC – under whose jurisdiction it remains – claiming that the Russian Church poses a security threat due to its support of Moscow’s military operation.

In February, Estonia ordered the expulsion of Metropolitan Evgeny, the head of the EOCand a Russian citizen, due to unspecified public statements he had supposedly made in support of Moscow.

Calls for the separation of the EOC from Moscow have intensified in recent weeks, after the World Russian People’s Council, chaired by the head of the ROC, Patriarch Kirill, declared the Ukraine conflict a “holy war.” The council approved a document suggesting that Ukrainian territory should be under Moscow’s exclusive influence, so that it does not turn into a “Russophobic political regime.”

Laanemets claimed the document was a “terrorist message” which poses “a security threat for Estonia.” According to the minister, if the parliament in Tallinn declares the Moscow Patriarchate a terrorist organization, a court request can then be filed for the termination of its activities in the country.

The EOC said this week that it has no intention of severing ties with the Moscow Patriarchate.

We cannot unilaterally break such canonical ties… it will be in deep contradiction with our conscience. The ROC has not adopted anything at the church level that would force us to sever the canonical connection with it,”the EOC stated. It added that documents adopted by the World Russian People’s Council, which is not a church structure, cannot serve as a basis for severing ties.

“Attempts are being made to make us responsible for the words of Patriarch [Kirill]. This is a misunderstanding…Patriarchs change, but canonical ties remain. People in the church can make mistakes, but it is impossible to change your church affiliation after each mistake,” the EOC stated.

(Europe and EU are slowly but surely disintegrating into Communist ruled countries. Soon churches will only be mouthpieces of state.I wonder if they see the irony of them following the playbook of the Communist Revolution in Russia? Satanism is taking hold, to support a country ruled by Satanists.)

Harnwell Breaks Down Why The Widening Of Ukrainian Conscription Is “Politically Fraught” [NYT]

11:11Really good report, no wonder Zelensky is lecturing EU and demanding Ukraine is accepted asap to EU and NATO

There is little political appetite in Ukraine to feed what youth they have left into the meat grinder. Especially when the outcome of the war is so certain — negotiation with Russia. This is why it took Zelensky a year to authorise lowering the conscription age from 27 to 25.

Two articles in the NYT put the story firmly in the headline — no buried ledes today! — ”Ukraine’s Parliament Passes a Politically Fraught Mobilisation Bill” and “Ukraine’s New Draft Law Unsettles the Young”.The MSM is starting to report on the human cost of “fighting Russia down to the last Ukrainian”. The question iswhy now— and should Zelensky be worried?!

Happening today

Speaker Johnson to Meet With Trump Amid Ouster Threat

The meeting could serve as a much-needed political reset for the embattled speaker.

4/12/24

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) will host a press conference on election integrity with formerPresident Donald Trump on April 12.

The speaker will travel to the former president’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, for the event, which is slated for4:30 p.m. (ET).

The Republican National Committee (RNC), under its new leadership, has highlighted election integrity as its key focus heading into the November election.

“When you talk about election integrity, it is vital. It is the No. 1 thing that we are focused on, aside from getting out the vote, which, of course, Donald Trump himself will do for us,” said Lara Trump, RNC co-chair and the presumptive GOP presidential nominee’s daughter-in-law.

For many Republicans—including President Trump—questions remain about the validity of the results of the 2020 presidential election.

But Democrat Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, former chairman of the House’s Jan. 6 panel, says such concerns are not based in reality.

“By virtually all measures, the 2020 election was among the most secure in our nation’s history,” Mr. Thompson said.

“Donald Trump lost to President Biden by over seven million votes—fair and square. But Donald Trump still can’t admit it.

“The sham event at Trump’s country club should remind the American people of a dangerous truth: Donald Trump is a threat to our democracy and a danger to our Constitution.”

The congressman further charged that the former president and speaker “don’t care about election integrity—they care only about helping Trump’s campaign of revenge and retribution to regain power at all costs.

“The American people know this, and just like four years ago, they will not be fooled by Trump’s dangerous lies this November.”

On Shaky Ground

While the focus of the press conference will be election integrity, the optics of the GOP’s de facto leader standing united with Mr. Johnson on any issue could not come at a more crucial time for the embattled speaker.

Intraparty tensions over his handling of the Congressional spending battle have left his hold on the gavel in doubt.

And his recent support for reauthorizing controversial spying powers in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) without requiring a warrant to surveil U.S. citizens hasn’t helped.

The bill in question was opposed by President Trump and many among the GOP’s right flank in Congress, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).

For Ms. Greene, the speaker’s support for the measure was just another bullet point on her growing list of reasons to oust him.

“He has not done the job that we elected him to do. And I told him that,” the congresswoman told reporters after an April 10 meeting with Mr. Johnson.

Ms. Greene filed a motion to remove Mr. Johnson from the speaker’s chair on March 22, as he joined with Democrats to approve a $1.2 trillion spending package and avert a government shutdown.

The pair’s latest meeting was meant to provide an opportunity for them to hash out their differences, but according to Ms. Greene, no resolution was reached.

“We didn’t walk out with a deal,”she said outside the speaker’s office. “I explained to him that, and he acknowledged, that as a Republican member of the House, I pretty much have the best view of how the base feels and what Republican voters want.”

Mr. Johnson, who has referred to Ms. Greene as “a friend,” has acknowledged her frustrations while also contending that his power is limited due to the GOP’s razor-thin House majority.

“We will never get 100 percent of what we want and believe is necessary for the country because that’s the reality,” he told reporters heading into their meeting.

“It’s a matter of math, and in the Congress, the numbers, the votes that are available.”

(Hey Johnson you could at least win something, you gave them everything, so stop bellyaching and do your job. Apparently a lot of progressive Dems don’t want it either without a warrant. The IC will still break the law but it least we have the leverage of law! Coward.)

Fani Willis ‘Inconsistencies’ Found by DOJ: Spokesperson

The Justice Department issued a statement on the matters.

4/12/2024.1/2

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was asked by the Department of Justice (DOJ) toresolve “inconsistencies” in how her office reports federal funding, a spokesperson for the federal departmentsaid this week.

Earlier this year, reports emerged that a former Fulton County employee revealed that some federal funding that was sent to the office was used for different expenses, which is now being probed by House Republicans. It comes as Ms. Willis continues to work on a case targeting former President Donald Trump and more than a dozen others for an alleged scheme to illegally overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia.

Now, the DOJ, in a statement issued this week, confirmed that it had discoveredinconsistencies in how Ms. Willis’s office reported that grant moneyand that the agency is now working to receive the correct reports.

“During our review of the award to respond to this inquiry, we have noticed some inconsistencies in what Fulton County has reported … and we are working with them to update their reporting accordingly,” a DOJ spokesperson told the Washington Free Beacon.

The Epoch Times has sent multiple requests for comment to the DOJ and the DOJ’s Office of Justice Programs. Ms. Willis’s office has not returned a request for comment. Ms. Willis has not yet publicly responded to the DOJ’s statement.

During an interview on Thursday, House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said that a former Fulton County employee has been speaking with his staff and to the media about the alleged funding problems.

“Now the Department of Justice is looking into this. All kinds of problems with Fani Willis and this ridiculous investigationshe’s run on President Trump and others,” Mr. Jordan said.

Earlier this year, Mr. Jordan’s officeissued a subpoena weeks earlier to Ms. Willisto obtain documents related to possible misuse of federal funds related to her case against President Trump and more than a dozen other co-defendants. That letter asserted she’s “required to produce the following items in your possession, custody, or control, from the period of September 1, 2020, to present in unredacted form.”

“Instead of using thesefederal grant funds for the intended purpose of helping at-risk youths, your office sought touse the grant funds to ‘get Macbooks … swag … [and] use it for travel,’” the letter added. “Moreover, the whistleblower’s direct supervisor stated that these planned expenditures ‘were part of [your] vision.’”

It also stipulated that the former employee’s job was “abruptly terminated” after speaking about the alleged funding misuse and was “escorted out of her office by seven armed investigators.”

But Ms. Willis has denied any wrongdoing related to the use of federal funds and told Mr. Jordan that her office would provide information on a rolling basis. She also said Mr. Jordan is unfairly going after her office over her Trump prosecution and that it “would require this government office to divert resources from our primary purpose of prosecuting crime.” (She doesn’t prosecute crimes she commits them)

Appeals

The DOJ’s statement comes as lawyers for President Trump and the co-defendants appealed a decision issued last month by Judge Scott McAfee to allow Ms. Willis to stay on the case after allegations surfaced that she engaged in a relationship with her now-former special prosecutor, Nathan Wade. The pair confirmed the relationship, which allegedly occurred while Mr. Wade was still married, but they denied other allegations that they improperly financially benefitted from the arrangement.

The judge found that there wasn’t enough evidence to support claims of a conflict of interest but asserted that an “odor of mendacity” remains, asking either Ms. Willis to step down or for Mr. Wade to step down. Hours after the ruling, Mr. Wade left the team, allowing Ms. Willis to remain on the case.

Earlier this week, the district attorney’s office this week asked a Georgia appeals court not to consider President Trump’s motionto appeal “because the applicants have wholly failed to carry their burden of persuasion.”

“There is simply no trial court error to be found in the decision to deny disqualification,” her office wrote on Monday. “Days of evidence and testimony failed to disclose anything like a calculated pre-trial plan designed to prejudice the defendants or secure their convictions. The applicants have not identified any public statement injecting the District Attorney’s personal belief as to the defendants’ guilt or appealing to the public weighing of evidence.” (She is delusional)

Despite the allegations and the judge’s criticism, Ms. Willis told CNN last month that she is still working on prosecuting the former president despite the appeals process that is playing out.

“We’re not going to miss or skip a beat because of all the noise or distraction on one case. We’re going to continue to do our work,” she told the outlet.

In the case, President Trump and the remaining co-defendants have pleaded not guilty. The former president has said the case is an attempt to denigrate his chances at being reelected president in November.

Judge in Trump Case Says ‘Hostages’ Label for Jailed Jan. 6 Defendants Is Wrong

(Ok, how about slaves to the NWO destruction of America and the law, hows that work for you masta?)

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan responded to label used by the former president.

4/11/24

The judge overseeing former President Donald Trump’s election interference case on April 10 said that describing defendants being held on charges related to the U.S. Capitol riot as hostages is wrong.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, an appointee of former President Barack Obama, said that people involved in the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol who remain jailed in Washington don’t deserve to be called hostages or heroes.

They’re being kept there because they are dangerous people,” Judge Chutkan said during a sentencing hearing forAntony Vo, an Indiana man convicted of entering the Capitol with his mother.

President Trump has increasingly shown support for Jan. 6 defendants, including playing recordings of defendants in jail singing the national anthem. In 2023, he spoke at a fundraiser benefiting Jan. 6 defendants and said he'd contribute. “There have been few people that have been treated in the history of our country like the people that you love, like the people that have gone through so much,” he said at the time.

Later that year, he described jailed defendants as “hostages, not prisoners.” In March, he said one of his first acts in office, if he wins the 2024 election, would be “free[ing] the January 6 hostages being wrongfully imprisoned!” And more recently, he said a 71-year-old grandma who was sentenced to prison had become ”one of Joe Biden’s J6 hostages.”

Some people have criticized the characterization, including White House officials. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has called the description “grotesque and offensive” to people being held hostage. Others, though, have said they share President Trump’s views about the treatment of defendants, some of whom have been held pending trial for years.

“I have concerns about the treatment of January 6th hostages,” Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) said earlier this year on NBC. “We have a role in Congress of oversight over our treatments of prisoners. And I believe that we’re seeing the weaponization of the federal government against not just President Trump, but we’re seeing it against conservatives.”

Asked what he would say to critics who say Jan. 6 defendants shouldn’t be defended, former U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy told a forum this week that people were “defending the due process.”

“Why are they sitting in jail and not having the ability to go to court?” he added later.

Several dozen people are being held in a Washington jail as they await trial or sentencing, including some charged with assaulting law enforcement officers. Many have expressed support for President Trump.

Mr. Vo, 31, was not held after he was convicted in September 2023 of four misdemeanors, including disorderly conduct in a Capitol building and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building, even though Judge Chutkan found he failed to comply with pre-trial release conditions. Mr. Vo, she said, visited the so-called Freedom Corner outside the Washington jail, where people gather nightly for a vigil for those held, even though he was ordered not to be in Washington outside of court business.

Judge Chutkan told Mr. Vo that he was fortunate she didn’t order him jailed after his conviction. She said he has consistently refused to express remorse or accept responsibility for his conduct on Jan. 6.

She sentenced Mr. Vo to nine months of imprisonmentfollowed by one year of supervised release, as well as a $1,000 fine.

Defense attorneys had requested no prison time, noting that Mr. Vo was not accused of carrying out any violence and that he left the Capitol within 30 minutes of entering. Prosecutors sought 11 months of imprisonment, noting statements that indicate a lack of remorse, including his self-description on social media of being a “J6 wrongful convict” and a post after the trial that said,“there was zero jury of peers and 100% a kangaroo court.”

Mr. Vo said Wednesday he was “sorry for everything” and should not have entered the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Judge Chutkan didn’t mention President Trump’s name during the sentencing hearing.

The former president’s trial in Washington for the election interference case was scheduled to start on March 4, but Judge Chutkan agreed to place the case on hold as courts consider his argument that he is immune from prosecution. The U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case this month.

Senate Calls Out-of-Control Spending a National Security Threat, Keeps Spending Anyway

Ron Paul 4/11/24

Last month, the U.S. Senate passed a resolution saying the over 34 trillion dollars (and growing) national debt threatens national security.A few days later, a bipartisan majority of the Senate voted for a 1.2 trillion dollars spending bill. In addition to the usual increases in war and welfare spending, the bill funds gender transitioning for minors without parental consent and red flag laws, which allow law enforcement to seize an individual’s firearms without due process.

Before passage of the latest spending bill, the Congressional Budget Orifice (CBO) released a report predicting that the national debt would exceed the prior record of 106.4 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2028.Interest payments on the national debtare estimated toreach 870 billion dollars this year, more than the government will spend on the military. The CBO estimates that, unless Congress cuts spending (which is highly unlikely), by 2051 interest on the debt will exceed not just military spending but spending on the two biggest items in the federal budget—Social Security and Medicare.

AsEric Boehmof Reason magazine points out,the CBO report understates how much federal spending will grow in the next several decadessince it cannot predict what “crises” future congresses and presidents will exploit to ramp up federal spending. As Boehm suggests, someone projecting 30 years ago how much government would spend in the future would not have included the increase in spending due to 9/11, the subsequent creation of a homeland security-industrial complex, the “forever” wars in Afghanistan and Iraqi, the housing meltdown, or the COVID lockdown. The hypothetical budget projection would also not have predicted legislation like the Medicare prescription drug benefit or Obamacare.

The large and growing interest on the national debt puts pressure on the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates low. The Federal Reserve’s rate increases, though relatively small, are one reason national debt payments rose by 32 percent since last year. The need for the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates low will further erode the dollar’s purchasing power, subjecting more Americans to the insidious inflation tax.It will eventually cause a loss of the dollar’s world reserve currency status. This will result in a major economic meltdown that will likely lead to widespread civil unrest, thefurther growth of authoritarian movementson both the left and right, and new restrictions on liberty.

The only way out of this is for Congress to begin winding down the welfare-warfare state. A good place to start is by cutting spending on militarism and forgoing interventionism. Savings from these cuts could be used to ensure those dependent on entitlement and welfare programs are not harmed as Congress winds down these programs. Responsibility forproviding support for the truly needyshould bereturned to local and religious charitable institutions, whileresponsibility for education should be returned to local communities and parents.

Congress should also pass legislation requiring any new spending to be offset by cuts in other federal spending andforbidding the Federal Reserve from purchasing federal debt instruments. These steps will be opposed by the special interests that benefit from the current system, but they are the only way to ensure the blessings of liberty and prosperity to our posterity.

This women is great, she revealed and recited many things Bidan did, that he wants black minorities to forget! Especially on the laws he put up and passed, to enslave them and their children for generations to come.He is the biggest racist of them all

When Black people realize the loser in the WH, that surrounds himself with poor black women at his short events, that have been welfare all their lives because him and others: they will understand he really hates them. He’s trying so hard to erase his black hating record, and eventually those black women (mostly) and some men, will understand Bidan has always been their slave masta!

He’s playing nice now because he knows they have never been allowed a real education. Wait till Hitler Bidan comes out to arrest the blacks, with his black and red Satanic fiery speech, denouncing them, even harder than anytime before.

The day that welfare moms understand he destroyed their ability to thrive and grow, thats what will boost “The Great Awakening” to levels never seen before.
