It freaks a lot people out when you shake their hand that way (especially as a woman). I’ve been questioned many times about it. Been doing it since I was 12, was listening to my uncles talk about handshakes and one said that grip (pointer finger on their wrist) made it impossible for the other person to squeeze and grind your knuckles. My kid self thought it was genius.
Told anyone who asked why I shook hands weirdly that it’s a “power grip” and no one can do their stupid dominance squeeze on me successfully.

Decade or more later and many very disturbed adults hands shook before I learned it was a secret handshake of Mormons and Freemasons. Makes a lot more sense now, but now I just do it to enjoy watching those in the know react to it. Very entertaining and enlightening.
