Republican AGs in 14 States Put Bank of America on Notice After ‘Debanking’ Conservatives

A group of Republican Attorneys General (AGs) warned Bank of America against alleged practices of “de-banking” certain customers because of their religious or political views. The AGs say that Bank of America has previously denied services to gun manufacturers and sellers, ‘fossil-fuel’ producers, contractors for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and private prisons and related services. Their letter cited recent news reports that Bank of America cooperated with the FBI and US Treasury to profile conservative and religious Americans as potential domestic terrorists.

The group of AGs are from these states: Mississippi, Idaho, Iowa, Alabama, Utah, Texas, Montana, Virginia, Arkansas, South Carolina, South Dakota, Indiana, Missouri and Nebraska. Their letter asked that Bank of America provide them with a written report about their account-cancellation policies and whether Bank of America considers a customer’s speech or religious exercise as a component of those policies. The AGs also asked that the bank update its terms of service to state that it does not discriminate against customers for their religious or political views or speech.

‘Terrifying’: FISA Bill Set to Include ‘Vast’ New Surveillance Powers Forcing Businesses to ‘Become NSA Spies’

The Senate is set to vote on the FISA reauthorization bill on April 19 that includes a provision forcing any company or individual that provides ANY communications service to give its electronic data to of the National Security Agency (NSA) upon request. Critics are urging people to call their Senators to stop the passage of the bill.

The Section 702 provision of the FISA renewal bill requires any company that that hosts ANY form of communication service to surrender surveillance data to the NSA. An amendment from the House intel committee was passed by the House that vastly expands the universe of entities from wifi service companies that can be compelled to assist the NSA but now also includes any company that provides equipment on which communications are transmitted. This may include commercial landlords, barber shops, laundromats, fitness centers, hardware stores, dentist’s offices… the list goes on and on. Any of companies compelled to hand over data to the NSA would be under a gag order and the targeted individual would not be informed of the spying.

Islands That Climate Alarmists Said Would Disappear Due to Rising Sea Have Grown in Size

An amount of land equivalent to the Isle of Wight has been added to the shorelines of 13,000 islands around the world in just the last 20 years. This fascinating fact of a 369.67 square kilometre increase has recently been discovered by a group of Chinese scientists analysing both surface and satellite records. Overall, land was lost during the 1990s, but the scientists found that in the study period of three decades to 2020 there was a net increase of 157.21 km2.

The Chinese findings are important in helping destroy the claim that many low-lying islands will simply disappear beneath the waves in the near future due to human-induced climate change. They show how shoreline changes are a persistent and ongoing process that is subject to many natural and human influences.

Report Shows the Social Security Trust Fund Could Run Out of Funds as Soon as 2031

According to a report by the Social Security Administration, the asset reserve dedicated to the benefit program for old-age, survivors and disability insurance could be depleted around 2034 under present circumstances. If the Social Security Administration has higher costs, it could be depleted as soon as 2031.

A social safety net is synonymous with a failsafe for many, but in the case of the U.S. Social Security system, additional action is needed to ensure it stays that way.

The annual OASDI trustees report by the Social Security Administration, covering old-age, survivors and disability insurance, shows that under the present circumstances, the asset reserve dedicated to the benefit program could be depleted sooner rather than later.

As Statista’s Katharina Buchholz reports, under the report’s intermediate scenario, asset funds would run out sometime in 2034, while this could happen as soon as 2031 if the administration was to shoulder a high volume of costs in the upcoming years.

Under the low-cost scenario, the fund could remain solvent until 2066. The intermediate date was moved forward in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, which seriously diminished Social Security’s income in payroll taxes.
