Lawmakers seek answers in classified AARO briefing
Updated: APR 17, 2024 / 01:21 PM CDT
Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are gathering for a classified briefing on unidentified aerial phenomena in the latest push for answers from the Pentagon about whistleblower allegations of a secret UFO-retrieval program.
A few members, both Republican and Democrat, from the House UAP Caucus, a bipartisan group, will attend the event. They will be briefed by two people from the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, or AARO, the Pentagon department tasked with investigating reports of unidentified objects in the sky.
Because the briefing is classified, itâs unlikely the media will get any details about what was discussed. This is the third such classified briefing in the last few months that the newly formed caucus has been able to put together.
One was done by the Department of Defense and the other by the intelligence community. This follows an expansive report from the AARO that detailed the governmentâs history with investigating UAP but said the government has no evidence of alien activity connected to the phenomena.
Some members in the briefing have expressed skepticism over the contents of the report, so there may be some back-and-forth around that in the room.
Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., told NewsNationâs Joe Khalil his expectations for the meeting are low.
âWeâve been like a rat chasing our tail, time and time again; weâre told this is the one where itâs gonna happen. And, of course, itâs absolutely not,â Burchett said. âThese folks are putting out that itâs a bunch of false information, yet they spend tens of millions of dollars.â
After the prior briefings, NewsNation spoke to lawmakers as they exited. While they couldnât share details, representatives expressed they were disappointed in the first briefing but did feel they got some information in the second.
The members of the caucus are also talking about a potential field hearing, which would be the second hearing on UAPs since whistleblower David Grusch stepped forward with his allegations.

Defense community âarrogantâ for not sharing UAP info: Burchett
Updated: APR 18, 2024 / 11:18 AM CDT
Lawmakers on Capitol Hill received a classified briefing from the Pentagonâs All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office which is tasked with investigating reports of unidentified aerial phenomena, better known as UFOs. But members of the House UAP Caucus werenât necessarily happy with what they heard.
Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., is one of the bipartisan group of lawmakers pushing for more transparency on the subject. As with previous briefings, he told NewsNation he still has questions and believes the Pentagon is deliberately sending people who canât give lawmakers the answers they seek.
âItâs always compartmentalized,â Burchett said. âI donât really think these people are lying, I think thereâs a lot of arrogance around this so-called intelligence community, what they do is theyâve compartmentalized it so that each department can only answer your question up to a certain point.â
Burchett said he was almost falling asleep during the briefing, which he described as âmundane and boring.â
He also questioned why the meeting had to be held in a SCIF, a secure chamber used to discuss classified information if things were so straightforward.
âWhy canât you tell the American public that?â Burchett questioned.
Burchett called the Pentagonâs recent report, which denied the agency has ever encountered alien technology or evidence of extraterrestrial life, a coverup.
âThereâs tens of millions of dollars that we spent investigating, weâve had departments tell us they have recovery units, but yet they wonât release full reports,â he told NewsNation. âYour reports look like somebody shot it with a 12-gauge shotgun.â
Burchett, along with others, are calling for more hearings on the issue as they try to find out the truth.
Even if the answer isnât aliens, Burchett said there needs to be more transparency.
âIâve said many times, itâs not about the little green men or the flying saucers, itâs about what the heck are they spending all this dadgum money on?â Burchett said
As for why the reasons the military would cover up something so huge, Burchett said it comes down to arrogance.
âI canât tell you how many conversations Iâve had with high-ranking officials that have told me that America really canât handle this stuff,â he said. âItâs not their position to tell me who or what I can handle. Weâre Americans, we have to be able to take it.â

Steven Spielberg And âJurassic Parkâ Icon David Koepp Reunite For UFO Movie
April 18, 2024 10:07 AM ET
Sources close to entertainment heavyweight Steven Spielberg said Wednesday that his next project will be a UFO movie with âJurassic Parkâ writer David Koepp.
The UFO project is apparently based on Spielbergâs original idea, according to Variety. Koepp is writing the screenplay, which means weâre probably in for an absolutely epic treat should this thing come together. Koepp is best known for writing âJurassic Park,â one of the greatest films ever made.
His other projects include the original âMission: Impossible,â as well as âWar of the Worlds,â both of which are rewatchable time and time again. Koeppâs more recent work includes âIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,â which was ripped apart at the seams for how much it shoved redundant social ideologies down the throat of viewers, so letâs hope Koepp doesnât do the same thing with whatever this up-coming project may be.
Spielberg on the other hand kind of defines the UFO genre (and most other forms of iconic entertainment). Heâs best known for alien-inspired storylines in classics like âClose Encounters of the Third Kind,â âE.T. the Extra-Terrestrialâ and more recently âSuper 8â and âWar of the Worlds.â
There is very limited information on what this Koepp-Spielberg project will be. Letâs hope it combines the best action from âWar of the Worlds,â the terror of âJurassic Parkâ and the heartfelt emotion of âE.T.â

TRANSFORMERS ONE: First Trailer Officially Launches This ThursdayâŚIn Outer Space!
Paramount Pictures has announced (via Toonado.com) that the first trailer for Transformers One will debut like no movie trailer ever has before: in outer space.
This long-awaited origin story of how the most iconic characters in the Transformers universe, Orion Pax and D-16, went from brothers-in-arms to sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron, will debut its trailer on Thursday, April 18. The launch begins at 6am PT with a live-streamed countdown showing the journey into space.
One hour later, the craft will reach its peak at 125,000 feet above the Earth, revealing the trailer with a custom introduction video from Transformers One's stars: Chris Hemsworth and Brian Tyree Henry.
The event will be streamed from the Transformers social accounts, the Paramount Pictures YouTube channel, and co-streamed by Chris Hemsworth on Instagram.
Needless to say, it's a clever way to hype up the animated prequel.
There's a lot of excitement surrounding the movie, but the studio's decision to replace longtime Transformers voiceover actors with on-camera actors has caused a certain level of uneasiness among fans.
However, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has had nothing but good things to say about Hemsworth's approach to playing Optimus Prime, confirming there will be a logical connection between his performance and Peter Cullen's.
"When we first listen to Chris Hemsworth's voice, you're like, 'God, is he gonna be a good Optimus!'" the producer exclaimed. "Obviously, he starts as Orion Pax and you don't become Optimus for a while, so he's not playing, for most of the movie, what we think of as Optimus, Peter Cullen."
"So it's that transition, and Chris's voice has a timbre thatâŚitâs logical that Peter Cullen would take over that voice, if you would, which is really great, the fans are gonna really feel great."
Toy Story 4's Josh Cooley is directing the film from a screenplay by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.
Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg is executive producing Transformers One alongside Brian Goldner, Brian Oliver, Bradley J. Fischer, and Valerii An.
Keegan-Michael Key plasy B-127. Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm round out the impressive cast.
Transformers One is set to be released in theaters on September 13, 2024.
