Palestinians released from Israeli custody report widespread ill treatment to UN agency

The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) said it received reports of mass ill treatment of Palestinians taken captive from Gaza by Israeli forces, including detainees being urinated on and made to act like animals, and children being attacked by dogs.

A new report, released on Palestinian Prisoners' Day on Wednesday, warned that for the thousands of prisoners kept in detention by the Israeli army, physical, sexual and psychological abuse were routine.

"This included being subjected to beatings while made to lie on a thin mattress on top of rubble for hours without food, water or access to a toilet, with their legs and hands bound with plastic ties. Several detainees reported being forced into cages and attacked by dogs. Some released detainees, including a child, had dog bite wounds on their body," read the report.

"Detainees were threatened with prolonged detention, injury or the killing of family members if they did not provide requested information."

The testimonies come from some of the 1,506 detainees that Unrwa said it had documented being released from Israeli detention between November and 4 April.

50 bodies found in mass grave in Gaza hospital days after Israeli withdrawal

Palestinian civil defense teams have unearthed a mass grave at the Nasser hospital in Khan Yunis two weeks after the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the southern Gaza city.

In a statement released on Saturday, Gaza’s civil defense agency said the bodies of 50 Palestinians, who had been killed by the Israeli occupation forces, were retrieved from the mass grave.

“Our teams continue their search and retrieval operations for the remaining martyrs in the coming days as there are still a significant number of them,” it added.

Israeli forces raided the Nasser hospital and killed dozens of people who were sheltering at the medical complex back in February following days of intense bombardment.

They attacked Khan Yunis – the Gaza Strip’s second-largest city – in early December, forcing residents to flee their homes.

On April 7, the Israeli military said that it had withdrawn its ground forces from Khan Yunis. Since then, displaced Palestinians have been returning to their homes after months of Israeli attacks, which left much of the city in ruins.

Israel waged a genocidal war on the besieged Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian Hamas resistance group carried out a historic operation against the occupying entity in retaliation for the regime’s intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

The Tel Aviv regime has so far killed at least 34,049 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured 76,901 others.

Satellite images and photographs shared on social media show extensive development and construction at two outposts the Israel Defense Forces is building on the strategic road that divides the Gaza Strip into two.

The army calls the construction of these outposts in what it calls the "Netzarim Corridor" as a long-term achievement. The whole corridor is referred to as something that is here to stay.

The Netzarim Road, in the heart of this corridor, bisects the Gaza Strip. The outposts were built along this road, which is intended to enable the IDF to control the movement of Palestinians from the south to the north and launch operations in different parts of the Strip.

The two outposts are positioned at the crossroads between the Netzarim Road and two other key routes, along which hundreds of thousands of Palestinians fled from north Gaza to the south in the earlier stages of the war.

One of the outposts sits on the crossroads between Netzarim Road and Salah a-Din Road, and the second is located where it meets Gaza's coastal route.

Israeli Airstrike in Rafah Kills 10, Including Six Children, as Fears of Invasion Grow

Fears that Israel still plans to invade the last remaining refuge for Palestinians displaced from Israel’s bombardment and invasion of Gaza, are growing after an Israeli airstrike on the city reportedly killed 10 people on Friday, mostly women and children.

“This is a world devoid of all human values and morals,” Ahmed Barhoum told The Associated Press, who lost his wife, and five-year-old daughter, as well as his sister, brother-in-law and their three children in the bombing.

“They bombed a house full of displaced people, women and children. The only martyrs were women and children.”

The attack came after Israeli drones were reportedly shot down over Iran early Friday morning, seemingly in response to an Iranian attack earlier this week that was itself a response to an Israeli attack on Iran’s consulate in Syria’s capital city Damascus.

Shortly after Iran’s missile and drone attack, Israeli minister Benny Gantz vowed to “exact the price” from Iran “in the fashion and timing” that is right for Israel. It is unclear if that attack was intended to do that.
