John 8:31 Context
28Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. 29And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. 30As he spake these words, many believed on him. 31Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. 33They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 34Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
NB: what this passage is saying. The Jews which believed on him, defend themselves when Jesus offers them freedom, by stating that, "We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man:".
This is a very important point, because Israelite Judeans, as well as the other 10 tribes of Israel abiding in Samaria (northern kingdom), by the time of Crist, had been in captivity to some 6 nations over a period of more than 1000 years in total.
So these Jews with which Christ is speaking, can't possibly be of the nation of Israelites, having never been in captivity/bondage. Therefore, they can only be Edomites, whom invaded and occupied Judah in 586 BC, after the Israelites were captured and taken to Babylon. The same Jews, which in the book of Estha, are described as rebuilding the second Solomons Temple.
