Many of our fellow citizens still rely on the mainstream media (TV network news, in particular). Controlled media outlets would ignore any disclosure unfavorable to their controllers and then work to actively refute it. As with the LV massacre and TWA 800, to cite two examples, the intelligence community would be used to rescue the media narrative as needed. Any facts or evidence would be refuted, and the disclosure would be discredited and forced underground to the realm of 'conspiracy theories' where it would be widely known but never officially acknowledged.
