8 month anon here. I've always used the catalog. When I said yesterday the catalog needs fixing I was ripped by others saying they NEVER use the catalog, no big deal that it's dead, just use the index. I think this was a shill tactic since all the goog sites point to the catalog. I think this was an attempt to keep newbs from getting here.
