Indian Space Situational Assessment Report (ISSAR) for 2023 Released

April 26, 2024

Summary and Way Forward

The consolidated data for 2023 indicates a steady growth in the space object population, as reflected by the maximum number of on-orbit payload deployments with the maximum number of launches in 2023. The number of close approach alerts received and the number of CAMs (Collision Avoidance Manoeuvre) executed by ISRO was also the highest to date.

Operating in an environment inhabited by a growing population of active satellites requires Space Traffic Management (STM). However, unlike air and marine traffic, no universally accepted framework for STM exists at present, hence the resolution of an on-orbit close approach between two active satellites is carried out on case-by-case by inter-operator coordination. With the skyrocketing satellite population, especially in LEO, such coordination will be challenging in the future.

Furthermore, the scope of space-based activities is expanding at a rapid pace with easier access to space with technological advancements, rideshare capabilities, and the growing recognition of the immense potential of space-based technologies, prompting more players to embrace space-based technology and applications. The recent reforms have ushered in a new era for the Indian space sector encouraging more participation from private industries and academia. For sustainable space activities, a holistic approach needs to be taken to catalyse the space sector growth. It must be recognised by all space actors that, unlike terrestrial activities, any activity in space has potentially global and far-reaching implications, and near-Earth space is a finite resource that must be utilized responsibly to harness it for societal benefits.

New ventures like mega constellations, space tourism, human presence beyond Earth etc. present unprecedented challenges to safe and sustainable operations. Addressing these challenges demands innovative solutions with the development of cutting-edge technologies for practical implementation of active debris removal, and on-orbit servicing, in addition to widespread adoption of best practices and guidelines for LTS. Finally, international collaboration plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the near-Earth space environment remains preserved and protected for the continued exploration and utilisation by our posterity.

Leaked files 'shows US government confirming they recovered crashed UFO'

09:04 ET, APR 29 2024

A leaked document has allegedly confirmed the US government's retrieval of a crashed UFO, according to a former White House official. Chris Mellon, who worked under both Clinton and George W Bush, has released a redacted document following a conversation with a "senior US government official" who claimed the UFO landed in Kingman, Arizona.

The unnamed official is quoted as saying: "We're dealing with the recovered UAP that landed in Kingman, AZ in the 1950s." The document, which dates back to around 2020, also contains a warning that people "would be slack-jawed if they found out what we now know."

The Kingman incident from May 1953 involved reports of multiple saucer-like objects in the sky, with three purported crashes, one of which was seemingly intact. It's believed that the US military was testing an advanced radar system near Kingman at the time.

This event mirrors the infamous Roswell incident of 1947, where the US military initially announced the recovery of a flying saucer, only to later claim it was a weather balloon, reports the Daily Star. The publication of the Kingman document was approved by the US government, as it does not contain any classified information.

Mellon remarked: "My purpose in releasing this document, in the wake of the government's blanket denials regarding the possession of off-world technology, is simply to help others understand why I and some others consider these allegations worthy of investigation."

This statement follows an account by a seasoned airline pilot who described four "unexplainable" sightings in the sky among them a "hypersonic" UFO and another craft that hurtled through the air at "30,000mph."

Pilot Christiaan Van Heijst shared with podcaster Chris Lehto his initial thoughts that he might have encountered experimental USAF technology but admits that recent developments have led him to reconsider.

Mysterious 'mummy's foot' belonging to 'alien' discovered after UFO museum raid

15:46, 29 Apr 2024

A mysterious "alien" mummy's foot being kept at a UFO museum has been confiscated by Interpol who raided the facility alongside local police.

The bizarre foot claimed to be of alien origin was confiscated along with around 60 other exhibits when police officers and Interpol agents arrived at the Museo del Ovni - which translates as UFO Museum - in the Victoria area of Buenos Aires in Argentina.

The popular tourist attraction has been based in the home of researcher Silvia P rez Simondini since 2005. Advertised as a museum it features a number of alleged extraterrestrial relics as well as historical artefacts.

A mummified foot that has been on display in the museum for many years recently came to the attention of officials at the Peruvian Embassy in Argentina. They said the skeletal object has significant scientific importance for Peru.

After learning about the foot, Embassy officials alerted the Argentine authorities about a possible violation of an agreement between the two countries. Peru and Argentina work together to combat the illegal trade of archaeological and cultural artefacts.

Officials later found a video showcasing the mummy's foot on YouTube and decided to launch a raid on the museum. As well as seizing the foot, the authorities also confiscated fossils, ceramic fragments and pottery items that are believed to have been brought to Argentina from Peru.

Ms Simondini is insisting that her own sister found the foot during a holiday to the Peruvian capital Lima a long time ago. She said she tried to donate it to a number of museums over the years, but they never showed any interest.

During the "unpleasant" raid, Ms Simondini said officials took "many pieces that were found here in Victoria". The objects are currently being examined by the National Institute of Anthropology and Latin American Thought. It is unclear if Simondini faces any criminal charges for possessing the items.

Earlier this month, the Peruvian authorities interrupted a press conference on the 'Nazca mummies' and attempted to seize a newly presented specimen. The press event was hosted by ufologist Jaime Maussan who previously presented two mummified 'aliens' at the Mexican congress in September last year.

Mr Maussan, 70, claimed to have "definitive proof" on the so-called tridactyl mummies due to them having three fingers and toes. The Mexican ufologist presented a new specimen named Montserrat. He said the "alien" was pregnant with a tridactyl foetus at the time of her death.

However, the press conference was interrupted by officials from the Peruvian Ministry of Culture who intended to confiscate Montserrat's body. Accompanied by specialised police officers, officials interrupted a talk by researcher Jois Mantilla to grab the microphone.

However, they were surprised to learn that the physical mummy was not present at the event.

Maussan and colleagues were only carrying out a video presentation on the pregnant tridactyl mummy. Peruvian officials then left the event empty handed.
