Statement from SEC on Addressing Recent Concerns Over Non-U.S. Citizens Registering to Vote in South Carolina

Posted on April 30, 2024

Not on Our Watch

COLUMBIA, SC (April 30, 2024) - The South Carolina State Election Commission (SEC) has received several questions and concerns about non-U.S. citizens registering to vote in South Carolina. State law requires a person to be a U.S. citizen in order to be eligible to register in South Carolina. This is the core foundation of election integrity and the SEC remains steadfast in protecting our democracy and the sanctity of every vote.

The SEC is actively auditing voter datathrough the Department of Homeland Security’s Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program database to ensure that only U.S. citizens are included on the active list of registered voters.

Regardless of the method of registration,no voter may be registered in South Carolina without signing an oath swearing that they are a citizen of the United States. The auditing process ensures that any bad actors are removed from voter rolls and held accountable through state and federal election law statutes.

To date, the SEC has not received any specific information that non-U.S. citizens are fraudulently being registered to vote in our state.

“The SEC will not allow fraudulent voter registration to happen on our watch,” said Howie Knapp, Executive Director of the SEC. “Should we receive or discover information that non-U.S. citizens are being registered to votein our state, we will immediately report to our law enforcement partners for investigation and prosecution to the fullest extent of the law. The SEC will continue to be vigilant in following our state’s election laws to ensure elections in South Carolina are conducted with integrity.”

NATO starts deploying troops as Russia races to win

The plan to try and ward off disaster seems to be to fill in gaps in Ukraine’s forces by importing ‘advisors’

NATO is starting to deploy combat troops to Ukraine. Soldiers from Poland, France, the UK, Finland and other NATO members are arriving in larger numbers.

Although Russia says there are over 3,100 mercenaries in Ukraine, these newly arriving troops are not mercenaries. They are in uniform, home country proclaimed via insignia. They mostly are concentrated in the western part of the country, although in some cases they are close to the actual fighting in the east.NATO is putting out the word these are not combat soldiers but are in Ukraine to operate sophisticated western hardware. But if they are firing at the Russians the only proper way to interpret their presence is that they are playing an active part in the shooting war.

More or less this is the same pattern that the US used when it sent “advisors” to Vietnam. In fact, they were US Special Forces who engaged in combat.

The Biden administration, at least for public consumption, says it opposes sending NATO soldiers to Ukraine. But Biden in truth may be waiting for his reelection before he gives the order for US soldiers to fight in Ukraine. After Biden is reelected, he will have a free hand. The recent passage of the $60 billion air bill for Ukraine signals that CThe national security establishment fears a Russian victory in Ukraine. It would constitute a major setback in America’s security strategy and would be a blow, even a fatal one, to NATO.

Reportedly the Russian army is now 15% bigger than it was before the Ukraine war. It is also far more experienced, and the Russians have found ways to deal with US high tech systems, such as jamming and spoofing.Meanwhile NATO is far behind Russia in weapons, manpower and industrial might. Furthermore, stockpiles of weapons are very low and equipment supposedly for national defense has been sent to Ukraine, leaving defenses wanting.

The consensus opinion in theUS National Security establishment is that Ukraine is losing its war with the Russiansand could potentially face the collapse of its army. There already are reports that some brigades in the Ukrainian armed forces refused orders from their commanders. Those include the 25th Airborne Assault Brigade; the 115th Brigade; the 67th Mechanized Brigade (which abandoned positions in Chasiv Yar) and the 47th Mechanized (which demanded rotation after more than a year on the front lines). These are top Army brigades and not territorial defense units.

The Russians know what is going on and they are targeting foreign forces while also grinding down Ukrainian fighting units, inflicting heavy casualties. The Russians say Ukraine has already lost almost 500,000 troops in the war, and the numbers destroyed in combat grow on a daily basis.

Ukraine is desperate to find new recruits, and it is getting some help from countries where Ukrainian draft-age refugees are hiding out. Lithuania is planning to send Ukrainian draft-age men home. So is Poland.

A report on training of Ukrainian F-16 pilots also is revealing. According to some of the western officers working with the Ukrainians, progress even after a year teaching pilots to operate F-16s has been less than a success. Language barriers and unfamiliarity with western systems and combat tactics, has proven to slow the learning process. Rumors have it that when the F-16s finally begin arriving in Ukraine this summer, the planes are likely to be handled by “retired” pilots from European air forces.

NATO’s plan to try and ward off disaster seems to be to fill in gaps in Ukraine’s forces by importing “advisers,” waiting for the US to commit its army to the battle after the election in November. The Russians know this and are in a race to try and collapse Ukraine’s army before Biden returns to office, if in fact he does. If the Russians are successful, a bigger war in Europe will be avoided. If not, with the introduction of US forces, Europe will be plunged into World War III.

NATO state rejects ‘madness’ of proposed €100-billion Ukraine war chest

Hungary has vowed to oppose a five-year funding strategy for Ukraine just floated by NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg

Budapest is opposing a potential €100-billion ($107 billion), five-year NATO plan to fund Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has said. The draft plan on the military aid fund was presented to member states of the US-led bloc by Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg earlier this week, Szijjarto revealed.

The minister made the remarks on Thursday to Hungarian broadcaster M1 before heading for a ministerial meeting of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries in Paris.

“On Tuesday, the NATO member states received the secretary-general’s proposal to raise 100 billion that NATO plans to spend on the war,” the diplomat said, adding that since the money is to becollected over five years, this means NATO “expects the hostilities to continue for this period.”

Budapest will oppose the initiative and is not planning to participate in arming Kiev or training its soldiers, Szijjarto stressed. The draft plan was presented to the bloc’s member states in its “first reading” and is still a subject to negotiations, the senior diplomat noted.

In the coming weeks during negotiations we will fight for Hungary’s right to stay away from this madness, from collecting these 100 billion and siphoning them out of Europe.

Budapest prioritizes the security of its own people before anything else and will do its best to “stay out of war,” Szijjarto explained, adding Hungary’s opinion remains that the conflict can only be resolved through negotiations. Nonetheless, Budapest acknowledges mounting global security issues and wants to be ready to face them, he said.

“We cannot ignore the threat of a new world war and the preparations for a nuclear war. This madness here in Europe must be stopped,” Szijjarto urged.

Hungary has consistently expressed its opposition to the ever-growing involvement of the US-led NATO bloc – and of the EU – in the Ukrainian conflict, refusing to send arms to prop up Kiev or to train its troops, and forbidding use of its territory to funnel such shipments from third countries.

Budapest has also publicly spoken out against the potential accession of Ukraine into NATO, which has long been one of the key goals of Ukrainian leadership.

WATCH Russian military strike on US-supplied HIMARS launchers in Ukraine

A pair of multiple rocket launchers were targeted with long-range high-precision strikes

The Russian Defense Ministry has released drone footage of missile strikes on HIMARS launchers supplied to Ukraine by the US. Earlier on Thursday, the ministry said two launchers had been destroyed in the past 24 hours.

The multiple rocket launcher systems were spotted by a surveillance drone while heading for a wooded area, the ministry said. The location appears to be close to some new Ukrainian defensive positions, with freshly dug trenches visible near the road.

The HIMARS launchers were tracked to their positions in the woods, and both were targeted using high-precision munitions. The military said both launchers had been destroyed in the strikes.

While the Defense Ministry did not provide any further information on the strikes, media reports claimed that the two launchers had been detected in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region, which has for months been a key staging area for indiscriminate attacks on Russian border regions, such as Belgorod and Kursk.

The launchers were reportedly hit by projectiles of different types. One was likely targeted using an Iskander tactical ballistic missile, and the second one with a guided projectile fired by a Tornado-S. The latter multiple rocket launcher system, widely regarded as a Russian analogue of US-made HIMARS, has been used more widely in the past few months.

This is more important for the House to do than to do anything that helps America. No matter how much you hate them, it's never enough

Jews didn’t kill Jesus – US House of Representatives

Lawmakers have broadened the definition of anti-Semitism in the latest legislation

The US House of Representatives has passed a bill which its authors claim is aimed at combating anti-Semitism in American universities. If signed into law, it would mean suggesting that Jesus Christ was killed by Jews could be classed as anti-semitism.

The Antisemitism Awareness Act contains a list of “contemporary examples” which have been shared online by social media users, including Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Among the cases of hatred toward Jews mentioned in the document is “using the symbols and images associated with classic anti-Semitism (e.g. claims of Jews killing Jesus or blood libel) to characterize Israel or Israelis.”

Approved by 320 votes to 91 on Wednesday, with 21 Republicans and 70 Democrats opposing, thebill would require the US Department of Education to adopt a broad definition of anti-Semitism used by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which describes the phenomenon as “certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews.”

Taylor Greene was among the lawmakers who voted against the bill. “Antisemitism is wrong,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, but added that she would not support legislation that “could convict Christians of antisemitism for believing the Gospel that says Jesus was handed over to Herod to be crucified by the Jews.”

Other anti-Semitic acts mentioned in the bill include “accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel… than to the interests of their own nations,” making allegations “about a world Jewish conspiracy and or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government,” as well as “drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.”

Since mid-April, students have set up protest camps at more than 40 colleges across the US, demanding a stop to the violence in Gaza and an end to Washington’s support of Israel.

The demonstrations were initially peaceful, but clashes have erupted at Columbia University in New York, UCLA, and other colleges as police moved in to disperse the gatherings. Hundreds have been arrested amid the unrest.

A slavish, unimaginative, and ultimately counter-productive move from Congress

The Israel-Gaza flare up as highlighted a number of fascinating and portentious trends

  1. We see that the DNA of anti-Israel protest is fundamentally left wing, and inextricably associated with usual mobilization apparatus—internationally its global-south coded

  1. Corollary to 1 is that, much to the chagrin of many liberal jews and right wing israel critics alike, on a deep level support for Israel (and israel itself) is now "right" coded

  1. In the online commentariat world-a world increasingly divorced from the world of political influence-we're seeing an unprecedented level of critique of Israel. Pro-Israel people not sophisticated enough to understand that this critique is GOOD and should be welcomed.

  1. In the concrete political world (Congress) we're seeing a slavish, bungling response. This approach is echoed by equally slavish and heavy handed, unreflective pro-Israel voices that still think its the 80s or 90s and haven't adapted messaging at all

In relation to 3 and 4, pro-Israel side needs to think of the type of slavish unreflective support Israel has enjoyed in from 90s until now in the same way that sophisticated Arab states view oil—it had its place but has become something of a resource curse holding back more sophisticated adaptations

This is why the phenomenon in 3 should be welcomed, it is a bit of a wake-up call to a new and emerging reality – a call to take criticisms to heart and adapt accordingly

How about not passing bad laws against anti semitism that will have the predictable outcome of increasing hostility towards jews and Israel while depriving Americans of basic free speech rights

Anons This is an example of the arrogant, lazy and money grubbing House members trying to "Virtue Signal" Hence proving there is NO VIRTUE in Gov, no matter how hard they try to signal.

No Southern Border wall, they don't care, no stopping illegals, they don't care, sending $61 Billion with a total of $173 Billion from the US to Ukraine, they don't care.Anything that Americans want, they don't care.

But the the House certainly can't let the rich of that race, that may be insulted about being called names, yes that, they care very much about.
